After working at a daycare a few years ago i started to like the name Jace. There was a cute little boy at my daycare with the name and it grew on me. However my FI has decided that we can only name our son that if his real name is Jacen bc Jace isnt professional sounding.... as if Jason spelled Jacen is any better for the business world... thoughts?

I think Jacen would be a bad idea. He'd be spelling his name out for the rest of his life.
I like Jace. You could always name him Jason and have the nickname be Jace.

I don't really like either name. I agree with your husband that Jace isn't professional sounding, and I agree with you that spelling Jason Jacen is not a good idea, either.

Question- i knew a girl in elementary school who was named Jace, but it was prounounced Jay-see

i would name him Jason, and just call him Jace as a nickname. :)

I like the name Jace.I also think u could name him Jason, and then his nn could be Jace.
I don't really see what the thing is about being professional sounding though either or I don't think we would've chosen the girl name we did.

The spelling Jacen makes me cringe, but I think Jace is cute. I would either use Jace as a nickname for Jason, or pair Jace with a more formal middle name that he could use in the professional world if he chose to.

Jacen is awful.

Jace is fine, but I think of it as one of those informal nns that are used outloud but never really written down, therefore they don't need a spelling. But if necessary, Jace itself is 10x better than Jacen.

I know a Thomas James who goes by T.J. but everyone calls him Teej (not written out, but that is how we pronounce it) so another option for a nick name pronounced Jace would be to give him a first an middle name with the initials J.C.

I agree with everyone else - go with Jason, and Jace can still be the nickname.

Besides, Jacen makes me think of Jacen Solo, Han and Leia's older son in the Star Wars: Young Jedi Knights books.

Alternate spellings usually suck. There's nothing wrong with Jason, I wouldn't go butchering it. Jas or Jace is a cute NICKNAME, although my SO (Jason) really isn't fond of it.
