I posted a few days ago about an old friend who is having a little girl named Cerys Michele. There were a few questions, so I sent my friend an email.

She said Cerys was pronounced as "Carys." She said she wasn't aware that "Ceres" was a name, but that she'd looked into it after I mentioned it and now she thinks she's going to go with the "Carys" spelling, to avoid any confusion.

Michele is to honor the baby's paternal grandmother, so they are definitely going with the one-l spelling.

And, uh...that's it.

I think Carys Michele is much better than Cerys Michele.

I like Carys Michele. Michele is a legit spelling, and Carys is much nicer than Cerys.

Cerys and Carys are actually seperate names; guess it depends how she's saying Carys as to which would best suit. Though in the abstract I like Carys better, for the meaning].
Not that you can go far wrong either way.

I like Michelle a lot better (in as much as I like the name at all, which is...not much), but I only threw in the sidenote because a replier or two in my original post mentioned it.

Carys, though, I agree, big improvement. I still have no idea why she was going to go with the alternate spelling in the first place.

I've heard a few different ways, but the most common one I've heard from Americans rhymes with Paris. I seem to remember hearing it otherwise pronounced more like CAR-iss.
