Whereas my girl name list is solid, my boy name list is constantly changing - I can't seem to find good solid names with nice meanings that stick.

Here are some names I've found or were suggested to me recently:

my cousin's name is avery sage (girl), so those names strike me as a girls'. i like mason and dominic (either with the ick or eek sound at the end. they're both good)

Avery and sage are both very unisex I think, but I'm leaning towards them being a bit too feminine for my boys' list. Thank you for your input :)

I always liked the boys name Xander Gabriel. Also Damien Cole. I also like Riley, Hunter, Christian, Xavier. From your list I like Avery. Lucan? Luke or Lucas maybe.

Asher - Love it.
Zachary - Love this, too. Zachary is the better spelling; Zakary/Zackary/etc. all look too trendy and kr8yv.
Dante or Durante - Dante is great; Durante is horrendous.
Taliesin - I don't like this one; it's going to be difficult to spell/pronounce.
Peyton - This name sounds horribly pretentious and really too cutesy and little kid-like for an adult.
Conley - Last name, not a first name.
Lamont - Same.
Cornelis - Cornelius is great, but I don't like the misspelling.
Cordell - Eh. Dell could be a cute nickname, but it's too close to Cordelia.
Mason - It's okay.
Conrad - It's okay.
Wyatt - Sounds kind of trendy/yuppyish.
Wade - Like it.
Clarence - Could be cute, but I can't help but see 'Clare' as being a possible nickname and maybe causing problems.
Emmett - Could be cute.
Sage - Too feminine.
Paxton - I don't like this one at all. Reminds me too much of Angelina Jolie's kid, and it's just...not a serious sounding name for when he grows up.
Avery - I hate this name, probably because I despise unisex names.
Blake - Overused.
Rhys - I really don't like the spelling of this name, and the pronunciation reminds me too much of Reese Witherspoon for a boy's name.
Lucan - Lucian or Lucas is cute, but this looks like a weird combination of the two.
Zadok - Uhm, definitely not. Totally made up and it looks ridiculous.
Dominic - I LOVE this name.
Franklin - And this one.

Go with Dominic, Franklin, Lucian/Lucas (not Lucan), Wade, Mason, or Zachary.

Thank you for your input, and great icon by the way, my FIL has gone on swearing rants like that.

Your post gave me some perspective, particularly on the more foreign names (and I completely forgot one of Jolie's kids was named Paxton...) Cornelis, for example, is the Dutch spelling (one of my husband's families) and Zadok is actually quite an old biblical hebrew name but I can see how it looks part of the made up trend. Not first name material in that case. And I quite like the sound of Lucian :)

Zadok seems to me like something a little kid would make up to tease another kid on the playground: "Get away from me, you stupid zadok!"

I'm not a big fan of most last names-as-first names, so I can't really comment on most of your list...I do like Lucian, though. It sounds nice and old-fashioned, and you could always call him Luke for short. I'm Polish, so the spelling that's familiar to me is "Lucyan," if you wanted a "different" spelling. Same thing for Conrad, which is spelled with a K for us...

I know this is going to sound really lame of me... but I have two thoughts when I hear Franklin:
1. That little Franklin the turtle cartoon on TV. no joke. :/
2. a really small nothing place around here.
So I guess it's just hard for me to get over that and like the name.

But Dominic.. I love. I know this is going to sound bad too(in a different way) but I couldn't imagine a 'white' kid with that name.

I've heard/seen the Franklin cartoon, but I don't think it's nearly as big over here as it is over the pond so I might get away with it - it's an honouring name for us anyways.

and I do find names gives us a certain label - all the Dominics I know are white, but the only Avery I know is black (guy) so it makes me think of it in that light.

I find it's usually one gender or the other that gives people trouble. No idea why but I've really gotten to love all my girl names, but boy names are a complete minefield for me. Thank you for your input!

I really like Asher, Zachery & Taliesin. Lucan & Dominic are pretty awesome as well.
Cornelis is reaaally old-fashioned here, so I'm not a fan of that one.
I think Dante is a little pretentious.
I like Peyton and Sage better on girls.

Even though I'm not really a fan of Zadok either, I like the sound of Asher Zadok & Conley Zadok =)

I can't really think of anything to pair Zadok with, but I think it would flow best with a three-syllable first name.

I absolutely love the name Asher, I think it's so handsome :)
I agree that Paxton is trendy(as I know a baby boy just born with the name)
but I think it's really really cute. At the same time, strong sounding.
I also think that Conley is strong sounding & cute.

I think Peyton is really feminine, but that could be because it was one of my choices for my girl. I also think names like Jaeden & Hayden are girly, but Jaeden was on the top names for 06' for boys, so I guess it's just my opinion.

I heard Rhys pronounced 'HREES', 'RHEES' or 'REES' - the first two are traditional Welsh ways (apparently northern and southern though I do not know which is which) and the the later is the usual, day-to-day, anglicized pronunciation.
