If you want accurate information about the popularity (ie, not totally skewed polls conducted by babynames.com), check out the baby name voyager (http://www.babynamewizard.com/namevoyager/lnv0105.html) and type in Lorelai. It peaked a little bit the last couple of years (probably because of Gilmore Girls), but since the show is now off the air, I doubt it's going to get much higher than where it is.

Lorelai is a beautiful name! It is becoming much more popular though. Like not Top 100 popular, but it's much more common/trendy than most people would think, probably due to Gilmore Girls.

actually on a different web site i looked up the top 100 names of each decade from 1890 on, and 1990-2007 every year. not even in the years after the show became popular has any spelling of the name been on the top 100 list. At least not according to the Social Security Administration.

Yeah, that's why I'm wondering if maybe it's because of the multiple ways to spell it. Aidan isn't the #1 name and that's purely because they don't combine spellings on the SSA list.
