[identity profile] xravenessx.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
Okay, i have a dillema. My baby girl is three months old now. I named her Lorelai Faith. There are so many ways to spell it, and her dad(who is in jail) tattooed it on his arm but spelled it Loralei. I have been thinking about changing the spelling of the name, but i dont know what to do. Should i stay with that spelling since it is so original or should i change it so that it fits in?

Lorelai is the correct spelling and the one you chose. You shouldn't change a child's name to fit a tattoo.

I think Lorelei is the orginal spelling. The Lorelei was a (German!) siren who lured Rhine boatsmen to their death by her song. I suppose they changed the spelling for the show cos it's more phonetic in English

I've always considered Lorelai to be the correct spelling, and by far the prettiest. :)

I agree. Lorelai is the one i'd stick with.

Stick with Lorelei. It's not your fault he misspelled his own daughter's name. Lorelei is pretty, unusual, and correct.

I like the spelling you already have. :-)

Lorelei is the correct spelling, so if you really care that much, I'd say change it. But you already named her, so if it doesn't bother you, I don't think you should.

I'd go to the original Lorelei or stick with the version made "correct" by that TV show.

I would NOT change it to anything more deviant, 'cause it'll just make life MORE confusing for her.

I'd stick with Lorelai, maining because of Gilmore Girls, it's the accepted spelling because of it. and I think Loralei looks off.

totally adorable name, by the way.

I'd leave it alone. Lorelei is the more common correct spelling, but Lorelai is also correct, and it's probably not worth the bother of changing it legally for the sake of one letter.

Loralei looks like a typo to me.
I think Lorelai looks prettiest, but I'm partial to the spelling of Lorelei, since it's the original spelling. :)

Stick with Lorelai. It looks better, and even if it's not the correct spelling, looks more "correct" to me.

Doesn't it cost a bit to change someone's name? I would just stick with it. If it bothers her a lot, she can change it herself later in life.

Dude, don't change it.
