One of my closest friends since childhood is preggers. The coming baby is a girl. I just found out the planned name for her is Cerys Michele.

Still deciding what I think. Your thoughts?

I prefer Carys, and I really dont like Michele.. it's rather dated/tacky where I live.. but Cerys is still really pretty and the two names have a good flow to them.

She could have done a hell of a lot worse!

Interestingly, I didn't even consider that she was going for Carys, I just assumed she had changed the spelling of Ceres.

I'm not much for Michele, either, particularly with only one l. It's strange, my friend was always into more uncommon names, and I don't know of any Micheles in her family, so I have no idea why she chose that name.

Cerys/Carys are both welsh and Karis is greek.

They mean lovable I think.

Michele is the french Michael.. so.. eh.. it's not great.

Is it pronounced like Carys or with a soft C? With the "e" I would want to pronounce the "c" like an "s"...

I found out via email and haven't had a chance to speak with her on the phone, so I'm not sure which pronunciation she was going for. I had assumed the s sound, as in Ceres, but since you and the above poster both mentioned Carys, I'm starting to wonder. I'll have to check with my friend.

Carys is a really lovely name, but I don't like it spelled Cerys at all. It looks odd. Michele is just *yawn*. But congrats to your friend! :)

And how are they pronouncing Cerys? Ser-iss?
It reminds me of 'cerise', which is 'cherry' in french.

I don't like the name overall, it seems to fit with the current trend of artsy, mispelled names.
