[identity profile] salenite222.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
My ex-stepdad just went on a trip to florida to see his brother and his new wife. She's from Brazil and her name is Marley.

I kind of like it, what do you all think?

Also that reminds me, I've been wanting to post the name Marnie/Marny (I prefer the ie spelling)

I really like the name for some reason but I don't think I'd ever use it.

Thoughts?

I kind of like Marley too, but it reminds me of my friends cat :P Not such a big fan of Marnie though. But I guess it would be ok as a nickname for something.

Reminds me of Bob Marley or Jacob Marley. I think it could be okay on a boy but not on a girl.

Marnie is ugly..

I like Marley!

Though, this is counter-productive, you're supposed to be naming my BOY. Hmph!!!

Marley could be cute, but Marnie is just...not for me. I don't like the ie ending and the y ending doesn't look right, either.

Marley is okay. I'm not crazy about Marnie but I prefer the IE spelling.

Will Smith's daughter in I Am Legend is called Marley, named after Bob. I actually kind of like it.

My first thought is Bob Marley, so I'd think someone naming their child that was probably a total stoner Rastafarian-listenin cracka (although for whatever reason, I wouldn't apply that to the woman you mentioned).

My second thought is of Jacob Marley. Ebenezer Scroooooooooge...

Marnie makes me think of Tippi Hedren. Tippi Hedren, practically being raped by Sean Connery...Tippi Hedren, regressing to the mental state of a child and talking like a little girl...Tippi Hedren, getting a gun so she can take out a horse...so the name seems kind of comical to me. But since it's not one of Hitchcock's more acclaimed films, you may not have to worry about too many people having that association.

All that aside, it sounds like a nickname to me (as it was in the movie, short for Margaret).

I like Marley. The Bob Marley connotation is quite strong, but not bad at all.

I'm not so fond of Marnie, but if it has to be Marnie, I prefer it spelled like this.

I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with a lot of names that have "ar" in them somewhere, especially when they are girls' names.

With both of those names, I associate them with obscure characters from books and tv, as well as people I don't like very much, so I don't think I could ever use them myself, but I kind of like them, especially Marley.

I was almost named Marley or Marnie. I'm so glad I wasn't.

Marley is okay (it rhymes with my name) and Marnie is a fat girl name IMO.

I love the name Marley, but I think that's because when I was a junior counselor years ago, one of my favorites was this adorable little girl named Marlee.

Marley - It makes me think of a man for some reason.

Marnie - I really like it. It's one of my friends names is Marnie Brooke. Marnie Elisabeth is a name combination I love for some reason.

That's funny cause the only Marnie I've ever known is a petite super skinny little thing. :)
