[identity profile] britnibear.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
This is my first post in here, I've just been lurking ideas for the past few weeks or so. I'm 22 weeks 5 days, and my boyfriend and I just found out we are having a little girl! I'm 18 and he is 19 and when we were in highschool and first dating, we had this conversation about what we would name our baby if we ever had one and I came up with the name November (or Novie, or some cute nickname related) for a girl. It's the month we started dating and having her name actually mean something to us is important to me.

Now that we know she is a girl, this name will not leave my head. Any name that we think of (even the ones I truly like) just don't seem right.

What do you guys think? Help me !!

If you don't like the name, what are ways you think we could incorporate ourselves into the name. And what are your top girl names?

Oh & her last name will be Peck. November Peck (november kiss?? like how cute?!? haha).

I like November =) November Peck might just be a little too much though. It's cute when she's little, but when she grows up...I don't know.
How about making November the middle name?

As for incorporating 'yourself' into the name, you could always mix letters of your names and make a new one out of it. If that's possible =P
What kind of names do you like in general? I find it hard to suggest anything based on your liking of November alone.
(www.babynamesworld.com might be of help as well, they have so much and you can search using many criteria ;))

I think November is a month, not a name. I think it sounds pretty ridiculous.

I also think the point of a name isn't to incorporate the parents. I think it's to give a child a good starting point for herself, not to tell the world about her parents.

You said this nicer than I would have, so I'll just agree. :)

None of these things make it okay for those to be names. I know a kid named Tzaigihibierious but that doesn't mean that's an acceptable way to spell Tiberius.

If you really want to use November, I say put it as the middle name. It's great that it means something to you, but it's not a great first name for a child, and I have a hard time seeing a 'November' growing into the name as she got older.

So...
1) You could use it as a middle name
2) You could use the letters of your/your boyfriend's name to come up with a new one. For example, if your names are Amanda and Michael, you could combine them and get Amelia. That's the only one I can think of right now, but I'm sure there are more.
3) Your child is going to have your or your boyfriend's last name, I'm guessing, so one of you will already be incorporated into the name. Whichever one of you who isn't passing on their last name could use it as a middle name or second middle name for your daughter, so she could be FIRSTNAME Davis Anderson, for example. Or FIRSTNAME MIDDLE NAME Davis Anderson if you gave her two middle names.

My favorites:
Catherine
Juliet
Harriet
Louisa
Amelia
Emily
Madeleine
Isabel
Maren
Piper

Usually I don't like too different of names, but I think November is really kinda cute.

I'm not going to lie - for some reason I think October would be a "cute" name; and November similarly so.
However, you shouldn't give your kid a name just because it's cute, seen as they're gonna grow up and it might not be so cute then.
I think you could maybe get away with it as a middle name though, if you're really set on it.
What are some other names you like?

I actually like the idea of November as a name, in theory. Novie is great as a nickname, too. But with the last name Peck, I'd vote it down. Two nouns (or, as the case may be, an adjective and a noun) just don't seem right together.

The first thing that came to my mind is Annona, the Roman goddess of the harvest, since it's that time of year. Or even just Nona, meaning "ninth," since November is from the same root.

My top girls names lean toward classic, some would say boring, I'm sure: Emily, Isabel, Jane, Annabel, Charlotte. Nola is sorta almost kinda not really similar to November.

I really like November...I'd use Nova or Ember as a nn, though. I love a LOT of "unusal" names... but would only actually use the business card test passers on a real baby. BUT, April, May, June, January, and July are historicaly acceptable as names so why not November?

I really like November, but I don't like it with that last name so much.

I'm not going to lie, I like November, but probably not enough to use as a first name. It's not incredibly out there (I mean, people are named April, May, and August, right?) but I'd still probably keep it as a middle name. That way, if the kid doesn't like November, she won't have to use it, but if she does love it, she has the choice of going by it as well. That said, November is 100 times better than Addysyn, or Nevaeh, so if you really love it, go for it. I just think it's usually better to give a kid a 'normal' first name (not saying it has to be boring).

I like November... very surprised. Even more so since she's not going to be born in that month and the fact that it still has meaning. I'd definitely give her a more traditional middle name just in case it's "too cute" for her as she grows up. Good luck!

November, I must admit, is actually very cute of a name. Novie is also an adorable nickname. Put Peck as a middle name? Nooo. That just won't do, and in five years you will hate it.

Date: 2007-12-31 06:29 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] daydream11.livejournal.com
Oh, excuse me. Peck's the last name... I agree with the others who suggested a traditional middle name just in case the name becomes a bit cutesy. Put then again, if you hadn't mentioned that it could be a synonym for "kiss", I probably wouldn't have noticed it at all.

I think November is very cute, although I think it would be a bit better as her middle name.

Or, to give her a feminine middle name.

Such as November Catherine Peck, November Judith, etc

My great-aunts are twins named November and December; one was born just before midnight on November 30th and the other just after on December 1st. They are 67 years old and have always loved their names. One was a teacher and the other a doctor, and no one ever thought their names looked unprofessional. They went by the nicknames "Nova/Nem" and "Deca/Dee".

November is a very sweet name and if you really like it then you should go ahead and use it. I agree with the posters who suggested using a more typical female name as her middle name so she has the option when she gets older.

That is such a cool story! I've always wondered how often it happens that twins are born on different days or even different months and years (my own twin and are were born 30 seconds apart so much chance of anything like that happening).

Britnibear: I surprisingly like November as a name. It's a bit weird but it could definitely work.

ps: novie is a really cute nickname.

I looooove November as a name!! First or middle. I think Novie is cute when she is little and maybe Nova or Nove (pr. No-ove, or Neeve) would be lovely when she grows up. If it seems right to you, go for it! Worst case scenario is she goes by her middle name, right? ;)

My top girl names are:
Margaret
Daisy
June
Paige
Jane
Eleanor
Matilda
Alice
May
Ivy
Katherine/Kate
Josephine
Tallulah

I think something simple and pretty like November Catherine, November Jane, or November Elizabeth sounds really nice. :)

Personally, I think it's a horrible name. It really shows your immaturity, especially with that last little line of yours. [[november kiss?? like how cute?!? haha]]

I think once you get older and grow up a little more, you'll wind up regreting it.

Date: 2008-01-01 06:05 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] ugottafriend.livejournal.com
Saying you don't like the name is fine, but to call someone immature simply because you disagree with their perspective is wrong.

I say best wishes to BritniBear (and again, I DO like November Rose, and I'm an adult). So...that's all.

I like the name in theory, but I don't like it with the last name. A November kiss is cute on an actress or a character in the movie, but it would get old quickly. I would definitely relegate it to a middle name just because of the last name. Same idea goes for cutesy middle names if you go with November as a first name. I have to say, I don't like November Rose. First of all, the R's at the end of November and the end of Rose blur together. Second, it sounds like a seed packet, not a child's name. I would avoid any sort of noun or adjective middle name with a first name like November. November Rose Peck sounds like a unit of measurement for a rose's yield. November Katherine, November Amelia, November Eleanor, November Jane, or November Miranda sound nice.

Also, I must admit that I can't stand using the parent's names in a child's name for first names. My personal plan is to use my fiance's middle name as my first son's middle name. I think a child should have a first name that's all theirs, or belonging to a deceased or slightly distant relative. If you strongly want your names in there, definitely only use them as middle names only!

My favorite girl names are:

Daphne
Eleanor
Charlotte
Avery
Amelia
Ivy
Ruby
Louisa
Lucinda
Elizabeth
Scarlett
Harper
Georgia
Katherine
Ophelia
Quinn
Willow
Naomi
Verity
Briallen
Danica
Stella
Regina
