I already have the names for my current manuscript, but I have another one in the beginning stages and would like some ideas for names!

This series will involve fifty 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade children living in the United States.

Please give me 25 girl names and 25 boy names that you think would be fitting for an American elementary school student. I am ok with common and less common names, but prefer spellings that would be considered "normal" as opposed to "creative".

I will let you know what names I choose when I am ready to finalize the character list. Thanks for your help!

You're welcome! I got a lot of them out of my elementary school yearbooks (I'm a sophomore in HS now) and some from my mum's classes (she teaches 6th grade). Some of them are random, though.

Good luck! I so wish I had the inspiration/plot to write a story.

keep in mind that there would be a lot of the "common" names, and a few of the more unique ones; also, keep in mind that 1996 (the year the 5th graders would be born) is before the Aidan/Brayden/Jayden trend really got going.

What I usually do when I'm looking for a specific age group is go to the ssa.gov/babynames website and look up the top 500 names for the year they were born and see where the name fits to see if it really does sound like that age group, or if it sounds more childish/too old for, let's say a 25 year old.

OK, so there is no politically correct way to say this, but is this a class full of white kids (congrats to the above poster for including Josue and Keisha!)?? There is no ethnic diversity to these lists. Where in the US is this class? Unless its in Klan Kountry, I'd think about including some variety. The kids I work with are almost exclusively minority (although the minority is now the majority where I live) and, although they are a little older than what you are looking for, I'll though out some of their names and their siblings names -

Thanks for thinking of that. It will definitely be a diverse group of kids, but not so diverse that Americans can't pronounce the names because they are so foreign (no way to be politically correct with that statement either...just the facts). For example, my name is Kelli, but by Celtic origin is Calliegh. I wouldn't spell it like Calliegh, though. I would rather use more familiar spellings of names so kids won't look at it and say "What's that?" I want kids to be comfortable reading the books and be able to relate to the characters.

This will be a book for elementary school kids about the United States, but with fictional characters telling stories. The characters will be from all over the country, and will include different races...Caucasian, African-American, Native-American, Hawaiian, etc.
