[identity profile] gangwaygirls.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
I was playing around online (instead of working) yesterday and found this website, which has the pictures and names of all the school's graduates from 1943 to 1970. My dad graduated high school in '68 and my mom in '70, so I'm pretty familiar with most of the popular names (Michael, Steven, Alan, Pat for guys; Carol, Pamela, Judy, Deborah for girls). I thought I'd post some of the more unusual names for this era here... keep in mind these people would have been born in between the late 40's and early 50's.

FEMALE:

Jannett (I'm assuming it's pronounced like "Janet," but I'm looking at it like "Juh-NET.")
Cinderee Jo
Wanda Drucilla
Concepcion Clotilde
Caridad (went by "Cary")
Ivy
Lynell
Henriette Le
Estrella
Aggie (short for "Agatha," I'm guessing)
Thea
Dayle/Dale
Zandra
Joletta
Pandora Mamie
Arlan
Altie
Herleana

MALE:

Layne
Bryant
Lawerance (never seen it spelled this way)
Othar (no idea how to pronounce this - Author? O-Tharr?)

It's Oh-thar. I heard it on Baby Diaries on TLC the other day.

I like Ivy, and I could deal with Thea, but the rest of the girls' names are WEIRD. I like Lawerance, but spelled Lawrence. The rest I'm not really into. Layne looks like a feminine spelling of the name to me.

Caridad is Charity in Spanish, so it is a common Spanish name. And I also know a female who's name is Dale. I've never asked her why she was named that though.

Ivy is really cute. The rest of them are no. And Concepcion Clotilde?

Pandora? As in; the box of Pandora? Oh boy 8)
Drucilla is one of the ugliest names around, IMO.
And Concepcion?!

From that entire list, I only remotely like Dale.

I love Lynell, but spelled like Lynnelle. It's one of my favorite girls' names.
