A Quasi Name Game

So I'm driving home from work tonight and for some reason I started thinking about Seven Brides for Seven Brothers (the mother of the brothers names them in alphabetical order using biblical names). This merged into thinking about the Duggers (16 (?)kids all starting with the letter J). Its a boring drive, what can I say.

So the question is this....if you HAD to choose a theme (its the law!) for your massive amounts of kids, what would the theme be and, if you are interested, name your 16 kids using your chosen theme?

[identity profile] coolteamblt.livejournal.com 2007-12-18 05:41 am (UTC)(link)
Ouch ouch ouch. I hate themes.

Avery Jane
Brennan Alexander
Charlotte Isobel
Daphne Margaret
Eleanor Jane
Finnegan Thomas
Gavin Hector
Harper Olivia
Ivy Rebecca
James Kenneth
Kieran Ellis
Lucinda Gemma
Micah Robert
Noah William
Ophelia Jade
Petra Zoe

Or I might use botanical names. Not too sure I could come up with 16 kids, though!

Ivy Rebecca
Rowan James
Hazel Miranda
Flora Jane
Sage Francis
Laurel Tessa
Coriander Joshua
Jacintha Maritza
Forester Jones
Tamsin Fiona
Sylvia Jordan
Pomona Charlotte
Roosevelt Michael
Blodwen Zorah
Fiorello Johan
Calanthe Lucille

[identity profile] coolteamblt.livejournal.com 2007-12-18 05:57 am (UTC)(link)
I might have to change Petra to Penelope for my first one. I like both of them, and they're so different, and I like them for completely different reasons.

And I'm not sure I like all of the names in my botanical set. It would only really work out if I had mostly girls. I stretched on some names to get more boys in the set. Didn't work out so well. I have a soft spot for Coriander, though. It's not a name I would actually use, but it has a fun sound to it.

sixteen kids.. goodness. that's hard enough to do without using a theme!

okay.. here's mine.

theme: names of authors

London Beckett
Eliot Langston
Louis Faulkner
Ezra Lee
Raleigh Emerson
Nathaniel Salinger
Andre Scott
Khalil Lloyd
Johann Yeats
Oliver Dante

Charlotte Emily
Maya Austen
Sylvia Zora
Helen Lorraine
Kate Lee
Laura Rebecca

I really really love this theme:)

[identity profile] coolteamblt.livejournal.com 2007-12-18 05:58 am (UTC)(link)
Awww, this theme is awesome. It's not painfully obvious, either.

And I LOVE Raleigh Emerson. So classic, but modern sounding. I like Charlotte, but it sounds odd to me with super trendy Emily. I know they're both classic names, but they just sound clashy to me.

I'd give all my kids Danish/Scandinavian names.

Anders
Lukas
Torben
Otto
Jonas
Lars
Hans
Gunnar

Grete
Else
Maren
Johannah
Kirsten
Lena
Nora
Sanna

Oh, Lukas and Hans are favourite boys names of mine! I also really love Grete (is it pronounced the same as Griet? I really love this name) and Else.

Your poor womb!

I'm still surprised by how much I like Harper Jane, it's not my style at all, but it's very lovely. And Verity Sage, nice!

[identity profile] barelyshocking.livejournal.com 2007-12-18 05:53 am (UTC)(link)
Hmm. Seeing as this is all happening in an AU, I would choose the theme of 'Greek Mythology' and use the following names;

1. Achilles
2. Apollo
3. Leda
4. Hektor
5. Heracles
6. Jason
7. Odysseus
8. Penelope (or Persephone, I can't decide!)
9. Briseis (I love this name IRL, and would possibly use it)
10. Zeus
11. Orpheus
12. Castor
13. Pan
14. Hermes
15. Aphrodite
16. Helen

Mine too! I love Greek Myth, and I have little fantasies about having sons called Hektor and Achilles ;D

I really like Matthew Noah.

I've always liked Ophelia for a girls name, if you want something a little less trendy. Or there's Octavia (which I think would work better for a middle name) or Olga (for a Scandinavian feel).

Good theme! The man did have a LOT of names to choose from among his plays. Shakespeare=WIN.

I think my theme would be "uncommon names", mainly because these are names I adore that no one really uses, at least, not where I'm from (Elizabeth is overused, I know, but it's a family name, everyone since my great-great grandma has had it). Also, no shortening of the first names. So there.

1. Lillian Joann
2. Victoria Anne
3. Abigail Elizabeth
4. Griffin Marie (female, obviously)
5. Harlen Michael (also a family name)
6. Caradoc Beacan (we are lots of Irish in my family)
6. Eavan Briana (also lots of Irish)
7. Alice Diane
8. Dallas Cordelia (female)
9. Dallas Bryce (male)
10. Cordelia Dierdre (I really like this whole Irish naming thing....we're big on that)
11. Thomas Kenneth
12. James Todd (also family names)
13. Edith Monroe
14. Margaret Suzanne
15. Kaie Lane (female)
16. Devril Innes (male)

Well, I said unusual. Most of them are Celtic-based. My original theme was names in Beatles songs, but I figured that made me sound like a geek. ^_^ But I love the names they use, but I thought I'd choose some of my own.

[identity profile] the-good-ship.livejournal.com 2007-12-18 06:56 pm (UTC)(link)
I really like Abigail Elizabeth.

[identity profile] my-little-voice.livejournal.com 2007-12-18 02:46 pm (UTC)(link)
my theme would either be musical or literary

[identity profile] happysaid.livejournal.com 2007-12-18 02:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Sick & not feeling very creative, so I went with alphabetical too (I don't know how on earth they do it with all the kids' names starting with J. It would take me at least 5 tries to get the right kid.) Flipped a coin for b/g. Middle names are from loved ones.

I think I'd choose nature as a theme...that can be pretty diverse (I hope =P). Ok, here we go, middle names are just names I like & sound good =)

Lavender Maeve
Rhoslyn Elliot
Fleur Adeline
Skye Ariel
Zorah Milou
Lilias Faye
Meadow Juna
Ayelet Elyse
Zana Julie
Daphne Noelle
Hazel Mia

Collen Thomas

Nash Roman
Lorin Jack

Hah, boy's names are definitely harder. Especially with this theme ;)

[identity profile] neverstarsburn.livejournal.com 2007-12-18 06:20 pm (UTC)(link)
If I had to pick a theme I'd pick literary characters, but thats too easy, so I went more specific and picked characters from Francesca Lia Blocks books. I'd probably never use a lot of these names in real life, let alone together.

BOYS:
Lex
West
Jack
Orion
Raphael
Rafe
Paul
Smoke

GIRLS:

Marina
Lily
Echo
Eden
Ruby
Cherokee
Winnie
Tuck

Hmm...

Naming kids all one letter is one of my biggest annoyances on earth! If you're going to have a theme, be creative.

I'd pick the Tanach (whether I'd go more Hebrew or anglicized, I dunno) :
1) Miriam 2)Devorah 3) Jonathan 4)Eliezer 5) Esther 6)Noah 7)Ariel 8)Micah 9) Jael 10)Benjamin 11) Elisheva 12)Solomon 13) Moses 14)Jesse 15) Dina 16) Avner

Or Oscar Wilde characters:
1) Beatrice 2) Taddeo 3) Lucy 4)Algernon 5) Cecily 6) Ernest 7) Merriman 8) Dorian 9)Arthur 10) Basil 11) Sibyl 12)Victor 13) Agatha 14)Henry 15) Vera 16) Ivan
