I don't remember how it came up, but last week I was talking to my boyfriend's mom and she mentioned the name Oliver. Ever since then I have been in love with it! Just in love. I mentioned it to Wes a few days ago and his first reaction was "You aren't pregnant again are you?" and when I told him no he said "Good. Then no. Ew. I hate it." I asked why and he didn't know. However, I can usually talk him into liking a name. Not that I am planning on any more children anytime soon.

What do you all think of it? And what about middle names for it?

I think it's pretty good. I'm not fond of the obvious nn, Ollie, though.

Its popularity has climbed in recent years, so you're not the only one who loves it. I wouldn't use it, but I don't dislike it, either.

We had a deal. My fiance got to pick the name of our baby if it was a boy, and I got to name it if it was a girl. Since we had a boy, my fiance wanted to name our son, Oliver. I protested. Hardcore. I think it's a ridiculous name, and wouldn't torture my child with it. But, that's just my .02

He came up with some ridiculous names though... all of which I hated.
-Stewart (ick)
-Oliver (blah)
-Anakin (is he a friggin Jedi, or what?)

I settled on Gabriel, but, I wasn't too keen on it at first either. I told him next time, no matter what, I'm naming our next one.

Iused the "Since we're not married, I get to fill out the birth certificate so if you don't come up with a name I can live with, I'll use the boy name I like," threat. It worked wonders.

I lived with an Oliver who ended up being a somewhat undesirable roommate, so I am a little biased, but I think Oliver is one of those names that is darling on boys under ten and pretentious on anyone older (unless they are over sixty). Nickname "Ollie" is also questionable. Still, if you really love this name, it's a decent one and a traditional one, so I can't say no. :)

Perhaps wouldn't use it myself (is a little too common for my taste), but like Oliver a lot. Can't find anything objectionable about it.

It's a name I definitely think of as a chart climber. Use it now, and you're still probably a trend-setter. People who hate it today will have it on their own lists in a couple years.

I've only known one Oliver and it was a great name for him. He was a 20 something "dude" who got around by skateboard. A really good looking and sweet guy. His slightly-unusual British sounding name just made him all the more attractive. And Ollie is a great nickname for a skater too.

I like it, but don't love it. It's on my long list but isn't something I'd seriously consider for my own.

I hate Oliver and I don't think it's fair to talk someone in to a name.
And it reminds me of Oliver Twist.

I had a cat named oliver. Not sure if I would name a person that, though. And yeah...if you have to talk him into it, it's prolly not a good idea.

I think it's a cute name but when I think of it, I do think of a younger boy like a PP said, under 10.

I do like it but I think a middle name would have to be equally as traditional such as Thomas, William etc. I don't think Oliver "Jayden" would go very well.

I actually like Oliver Lucas.

It's on my top five list but my boyfriend hates it.

Also, it's my favorite wine. I just thought of that. Huh.
