Dec. 9th, 2007 04:32 pmI've just fallen in love with a few names and wanted some feedback.
Amelie (AH-meh-lee)
Eloise (EL-oh-eeze)
Ariel/Arielle (AIR-e-el/ARE-i-elle)
Imogen (IM-o-gin)- nn Ginny
Another question- I've always thought Tallulah was adorable but I don't know if it would be an acceptable name for a child after age 8. I was thinking Tilly for a nickname but... thoughts, in general?
And finally, what do you think of the name Henry? It's my dad's middle name and I've always thought it'd be nice to name a child after him, but no so obviously as using the same name or his first name as a middle. I know there was a post earlier about nicknames for Henry- are any of them more appealing than the name itself? Basically, what's your stance on it?

Date: 2007-12-09 10:52 pm (UTC)I don't like Ariel or Arielle that much... it makes me think of the little mermaid.
I don't like Imogen because it's an old name that reminds me of someone.
I also like Tallulah and I think it'd be fine.
Henry is alright. I'd prefer Enrique or Hendrick, though.

Date: 2007-12-09 10:57 pm (UTC)I don't know of any Spanish versions of Eric but I know the Portugese version is Erico.

Date: 2007-12-09 10:53 pm (UTC)I like Tallulah a lot. I used to want this to be my name, after reading Divine Secrets of the Ya Ya Sisterhood. The nickname Tallie might work, and I know the character in that book went by Lulu. Lula, Lou, Tallie, Tillie/Tilly, Talia, etc. are all nicknames that could work, and I think that different nicknames work well for different ages.
I LOVE Henry! I don't like the idea of giving a nickname as a first name, though. I like Hank, Huck, Hal, and Harry as nicknames. Harry could work as a first name on it's own, but I think the others need to be nicknames for a more formal name.

Date: 2007-12-09 10:54 pm (UTC)I also like the name Henry a lot. The only nickname that I would use as a name in its own right, though, is Harry. I wouldn't use Hank or Huck as names on their own.
I also like Amelie, Eloise, and Ariel. I've never been too thrilled with Imogen. It's nice but I would never use it.

Date: 2007-12-09 10:59 pm (UTC)My SO's middle name is Henry and he wished he'd been named that. I'm pretty sure it'll be used. I've grown to love it.

Date: 2007-12-09 11:44 pm (UTC)Eloise is okay.
Ariel is a man's name. Arielle is nice.
Imogen sounds sort of old lady librarian.
Tallulah sounds ridiculous to me. Like a character, not a person.
Henry's great.

Date: 2007-12-10 12:09 am (UTC)Eloise sounds dramatic and 1800's to me.
Ariel/Arielle, the little mermaid.
Imogen makes me think of prescription drugs.
Tallulah looks very arabic to me, which generally is a good thing in my book. however, this particular one makes me think ayatollah. and cats. haha.

Date: 2007-12-10 01:14 am (UTC)I also like Imogen, but you have to be ready for people to constantly mispronounce it (Emma Jean and Imagine come to mind). But I also like Imogen Heap, the lovely musician, so maybe I'm biased. heh.
Amelie is pretty as well, but unless you live around Francophones, I would expect that one to be mispronounced often as well.
Ariel and Talulah I could live without.

Date: 2007-12-10 02:51 am (UTC)I like Amelie and Ariel, but I'm on the fence about Eloise. Don't really like Imogen.
I always liked the name Henry, until I married my husband. It's a family name on his side, but the bearers of it have been rather infamous, so I absolutely refuse to use it. In other families, I still like it.

Date: 2007-12-10 09:51 am (UTC)I don't like Tallulah though, it always makes me think of the way baby's 'speak'. Probably because of the 'lulah' part.
I love the nickname Lou though (not so fond of Tilly).
I think Henry is old fashioned...but then again, it's getting quite popular, which means it's not so old fashioned anymore ;)

Date: 2007-12-10 03:54 pm (UTC)And I also love Henry with the nn Harry.
I don't like Tallulah, but the rest I'm pretty neutral on!
