[identity profile] polly-purebred.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
Hi everyone!

We've settled on the first name Joshua for our little guy who is due in March, but now we're stuck on a middle name. We were going to use David as that's my husband's middle name but that just feels like a cop-out choice.

We like the initials JP, so I'm looking for P-name suggestions. I'm not into any of the ones that have come to mind - Paul, Peter, Paolo or Percy. The only other one I can think of is Patrick, but that may be a bit cheesy as he's due on St Patrick's Day. =) My hubby is a big WWII buff (and a history professor) so we were toying with the middle name Patton after the general. However, we were vetoed by almost everyone we've talked to about that name.

Our last name is Stein if that helps with the flow.

TIA!

I kinda like Preston and Phillip :)
With your first and last name I think Phillip sounds better out of the two.

I like Joshua David, and I think Joshua Patrick is really cute, too, and since it's unlikely that he'll be born ON his due date, I think you'll be okay with the St. Patrick's Day thing:). Joshua Patton wouldn't be horrible, but...eh.

What about...
Joshua Philip
Joshua Phineas
Joshua Pierce
Joshua Porter

I love Joshua Patrick! But if you don't like that because of his due date (hey, he may be a day or two off ;) ), how about Parker?

Yep, I was gonna say Parker as it's my middle name! But I also like Patrick even if it matches the due date.

I like Patton. And I think it really adds some flavor to an otherwise common name. No offense meant. I do think Joshua is a nice name, just very common.

Well I suppose region really does make a big difference. I didn't really think of that. I know quite a few Joshes in Cincinnati, Ohio. ha. But one other thing I will say is that I love the way Joshua sounds, but it makes me sad that people shorten it to Josh. But I suppose that's the way with most names with more than one syllable. heh.

I agree with this completely. As a lover of history and uncommon names myself, that would totally be my choice despite what everyone says. I love Joshua Patton Stein! It's adorable! =)

I quite like Patton - though my online baby name thing says it is a form of Patrick which may sway your feelings on that, as is Paden which is a boy P name I like. I think Joshua Patton Stein sounds nice!

Other P names that pop into mind is Pliny (a good history name, a guilty pleasure for me), and Pinchas (pin-khahs)/Phineas (fin-ee-as)/Phinneas/Phinheas (all different ways of the same name) which is a Biblical name that goes well with Joshua.

Personally, I think if you love the middle name Patton, you should use it. He is YOUR son after all. Plus, I just think it's a really cool name. :) Here are some suggestions:
Joshua Preston
Joshua Prescott
Joshua Presley
Joshua Palmer
Joshua Parker
Joshua Peyton
Joshua Porter
Joshua Powell
Joshua Pearson

Best of luck to you! :)

My name was supposed to be Joshua Paul...but then the whole "having a vagina" got in the way of that.

My brother was born on Saint Patrick's Day, but we're Jewish so he was Adam instead.

I think Joshue Patton is good.
I think that if you love Joshue Patrick, then go for it. It doesn't matter, even if he is born on Patty's Day.

I also like the traditional Padraic spelling. I don't know how into that you are though. My brother is John James Patrick Moore, but goes by Patrick.
