I'm reading a book -- Prodigal Summer by Barbara Kingsolver -- that is set in Appalachia, so some of the names are really interesting to me, and I actually like a lot of them. I just wondered what everyone else though, so I've created a poll. Not all of the names are listed -- I just listed the ones that I remembered without flipping back through the book too much, and I haven't finished yet, so if there are any characters that are named late in the book, they're not on the list.

My favorites are Lusa (she says later in the book that it's Polish, and short for Elizabeth), Emaline, Jewel, Cole, Joel, and Lowell.

Good book. Probably my favorite of her novels. No, I take that back. I liked Poisonwood Bible better. But Prodigal Summer was good too.

Lois is one of my guilty-pleasure old-fashioned names. I think it has a hip, edgy feel to it, probably due to Lois Lane more than anything. And Joel is, without question, one of the most over-looked and under-utilized bible names around.

I know a really adorable boy (man? he's the same age as me..19) named Eddie and he makes me like that name. So I voted for it. =]
Also for Emaline because it's pretty and for Joel and Frank because I like them too.
