I know this is a community for baby names but often we get into conversations about our pets names and people often post pictures asking for names for pets. I'm sure there has been a post about what you named your pets but I figured I'd post and see what people named their animals (or what they plan to name future animals).

Past Animals:
Shelby A collie dog that I had growing up
Gretchen and Bridget My parents' old German Shepherds; one died as a puppy from a disease and the other got out of my grandfather's yard when she was left there during a move

I currently have a cat called: Erni - he is named after Ernst Rohm.
My old cat was named Sasha - after Sasha K from KMFDM.

I would love to get a bullterrier in the future and name him Sid - after Sid Vicious.
I also want anothe cat so I can name his Hurley - after the skate brand.

Haha stupid names I know. I usually save my stupid named for inatimate objects. For example my TV is named Urkleflurp.

I frequently name inatimate objects, too, lol. My family has had computers named Hewie and Paqi. My car was named Russell and my dad's was named Hubb. In high school my trumpet was named George and my bugle was named Fred.

And, now, at work, I named the "snap box" Fuzzy. =D

Future Pet Names
I want to get a dog and name him Locke (after John Locke -- the philosopher, not the character on Lost); I also like Scout(f) for a dog. I name all my fish after politicians/people somehow related to politics, so I'll probably go with Carter, Abe, or George next time around. My friend suggested getting two and naming them Clinton and Gore.

I have two cats named Figwit and Penelope.

My old cat's name was Cloudy.

My grandparents have a dog named Charlie. Their old dog was named Bosco. They've had cats named Taffy, Dilly, Ming, and Chelsea.

When I was a baby, I had two cats named Ingrid and Roxanne, but I don't remember them.

When I was a kid I had a lot of goldfish. I remember a few of their names: Herman, Joe, and Bob. I had some kind of truck driver theme going for them, I guess?

My family tends to be partial to male cats and female dogs. Except with female German Shepherds. Bridget was apparently too protective of me when I was a baby. She would snap and bark at my greatgrandmother when she tried to pick me up and she's in the background of dozens of pictures where other people are holding me, watching.

when i get a dog someday (relatively soon), i really have my heart set on naming her zoe. but i could change my mind by then. and maybe the dog will be a boy. i will use some guilty pleasure baby name that i know i would never use. and i have heard its easier for animals to learn their names when they end in the "ee" sound (like charlie or daisy).

What I want to name the puppy I'm getting senior year changes based on breed and mood and the like. I really want an English Shepherd named Rockstar which amuses my friends. They figure the drunk people would get a real kick out of that.

From what I've heard it's not neccessarily "ee" but vowels in general. In particular "oh" and "ee," though.

Did the puppy die of parvo?! I had one that caught it before we bought her, but she didn't show any symptoms until the day after. She got better, but then got two more diseases from being at the vet's and having a weakened immune system. We ended up having to put her down at 4 months, because her bile duct was destroyed and she was throwing up every 5 minutes--literally.

I'm not sure what Gretchen died of because she died before I was born. My parents were married two years before I was born and they got Shelby and Gretchen. When Gretchen died they got Bridget. While I never knew her, she was really important to my parents. So she always gets counted, lol.

Shelby lived to be fourteen years old and saw so many fish, rodents, and my parents and grandmother's old cats and dogs come and go over the course of those years, lol.

Max - 5 year old longhaired dachshund. Named after the Grinch. Picked out the name before we had the dog. Originally going to get a female & name her Max. But that's not the way it worked out
Harlow - 9 month old longhaired dachshund. Official name is: Gerihil's Max Factor since she's our other dog's "niece" and she looked the most like him when she was a puppy. Goes by Harlow because Jean Harlow was a Max Factor model back in the day.

Growing up, we had:
-Sweetie Pie (a hamster my sister named)
-Trigger Happy (a hamster my brother named)
-Cotton (a very white hamster my sister named on a particularly inventive day)
-Snow (a fluffy and pure-white American Eskimo--when my parents got her from the Humane Society, her given name was Bo Derek, like the model...how awful)
-Smoky (a puppy from one of her litters; the father was a golden retriever; when Smokey was born, he was dark gray; as he got older, he turned golden-brown and white, which led everyone to ask us why the hell we'd named him Smoky)
-Apache (a calico Australian shepherd, whom my father named)
-Cheyenne (a beagle/sheltey, whom my mother named, wishing to keep up the Native American theme)
-Dakota (we never knew what she was, but she was the cutest mutt EVER, so bright a white, she practically glowed in the dark; my mother chose the name after I sarcastically suggested it)

When I moved in with my ex-boyfriend, he already had a cat, whom he had originally named Frisky, but had eventually just began calling Cat.

We had numerous cats adopt our front porch, as we had a rocking chair and it was in the sun for the better part of the day. We usually referred to all of them as Cat. They came and went, never more than one at a time, never staying for more than a few months. Last year, it happened again and I suggested we actually name it this time. "She's like a guilty conscience on your front porch," my ex said ominously, so we called her Guilty Conscience after that, or G.C. Eventually, the neighbors, who had grown quite attached to her, moved and took her with them. She has a good home now.

My current boyfriend has two cats who adopted him. Both were obviously abused by previous owners, but have slowly come to trust us. One is a reddish brown with a gray-and-black striped tail. We call her Toki (TOH-kee). She's very friendly and affectionate with us now, and is putting on much-needed weight. She still shies away from other people, though.

The other is a black cat, who has severe burn scars and lots of patches where hair won't grow. He's a sad sight. He likes to hang out in the front yard, and will let us come close now, but still won't let anyone pet him. He's fed now and is also looking much better than when he first showed up...maybe he and Toki had the same owner. My boyfriend named him Skwisgaar.

Toki and Skwisgaar are both named after characters from "Metalocalypse."

I've always wanted to get a female cat and call her George, after a short story I love by L.M. Montgomery. My roommate and I also used to joke that we'd get a dog and name him Mr. Tippy after the dog from an "X-Files" episode. But neither of those will probably happen for some time.

When she was younger she saw Gulliver's travels on the telly and she heard that name and liked it ever since. It's one of those names you really like but don't want to give to your children so you give them to your pets.
In Gulliver it's actually Glumdalglitch but Glemdalglitch sounds better in Dutch.
