How do you pronounce Tamara?

I like Seamus better. I went to school with a Shay...his real name was Ashton.

I prefer Seamus over Shay, definitely.

As for Tamara, I pronounce it Tam-are-ah. It's my friend's name (Although we call her Tami). (Are is like the word)

A lady at my church pronounces her name (which is Tamara), Tam'ra. We're southern and we talk fast (not stereo typing other southerners, but we have really thick accents at my church... haha) I like Seamus. Shay is a girls name imo - many, many African American girls at my school named Shay, Shea, Shaa (yes, seriously), and, my favorite, Shyay. ;/ Yes, I know it's Irish but... I don't like it on a boy - and isn't it spelled Shea for a boy?

Really? I feel really bad for the boys at my school.

It's hard for me to compare them, because the only Shayes I've ever known were female. I definitely prefer that to Seamus, if only because I don't like the name Seamus at all.

When I see Tamara, my first instinct is to say TAM-uh-ruh, because that's how a friend in my kindergarten class pronounced it. Tuh-MAIR-uh actually sounds a little better to me...I'm a sucker for the "mare" sound...but always makes me think of "Sister, Sister." Not that anyone else really remembers that all that well, but I'd be tempted to sing the theme song to anyone I met named Tamara who pronounced it that way.

I love Shay...for a girl.

I've always hated the name Seamus.

Tamara is very versatile in its pronounciation. Tuh-MAIR-uh, Tuh-MARR-uh, TAM-uh-ruh...

Shay, but I prefer it spelled Shea. I hate Seamus when pronounced SHAME-us; I knew a Seamus who pronounced it SHAWM-us, which I much prefer. Still, I like Shea better.

I think Tamara would be acceptable any of the ways you listed, but the two Tamaras I've know have both pronounced it TAM-a-rah, and generally went by Tam or Tammy.

Tamera is Ta - MARE - a
Tamara is Ta - MAR - a (like the a in apple)
