I like the Bridgette spelling. It's an allright name in my opinion but I'd never use it. As a kid growing up my best friends big sister's name was Bridgette and everyone always teased her and called her 'birdshit' (pardon my cussing) So every time I hear the name that's what I think of automatically.

It's not a bad name though.

I prefer the Bridget spelling. I don't think I'd nickname it, but maybe Bridie, (like bride-ee) which is an old nn for it. my great-grampa's SIL was a Bridie :)

oh, but I would never use it.. it's too irish :/ and I already got stuck with an irish last name, so it's out of the question. plus it doesn't meet my uncommonness quota.

It was kind of sad but she was really mean so I can't say I felt that bad for her. And yay me for making someone laugh!! Glad I could be of service :D

I kinda like the name but would probably never use it. It makes me think of Bridget Jones too much, although I do like the movie. I prefer the spelling Bridget btw. I really like the possible nicknames of Bree and Birdie.

I prefer Bridget and Brigette over Bridgette. Bridget seems energetic (I'm probably connecting it with Gidget in my mind somehow) and Brigette feels like it has less extra letters than Bridgette.

I like Bridie/Bridey, Birdie, and Bree best for nicknames. I also have a soft spot for Idgie (though I would never actually use it) because of Fried Green Tomatoes.

My best friend is named Brigette. At first it felt like her name was missing something (the "d"?), but now that's the only way I like it spelled. I just got used to it. She's beautiful and brilliant and so so sweet. I call her "Brige" when I'm being silly and "Bri" ("bree") when I want to call her a cute nickname.

Am I the only one who pronounces them different? 'BRIDGE-ett' vs. 'bridge-ETT'.

1. I don't really like it.
2. Bridget without a doubt.
3. I wouldn't use one.

I always think of a dog my family owned by that name when I was a kid. I don't really remember the dog but we have a lot of pictures of her from when I was a baby. Basically, anything with me in it, the dog is somewhere nearby watching over me. So, I associate it with something good but the name itself is not appealing to me.

Our dogs name was Bridget so for a person I'd go with Bridgette.

I dunno... Birdie?

I definitely prefer Bridget over Bridgette (I pronounce them differently), but unfortunately I recently realized how Bridget rhymes with midget :/
Gigi sounds like a fair nickname to it.

I feel the same about the 'irish-ness'.. I can only picture it on red-heads.

that's not it, really. my mom's best friend is non-redheaded irish and her husband is also 100% irish.. their kids all have brown or blonde hair, but they're 100% and the two oldest are married and having kids now, picking irish names. that's all fine and good, but as for me and my husband, I'm only 25% irish and I identify more with my german/austrian side. my husbnad is also only roughly 25% irish (if even that?) but it's from his dad's dad's side, so he's got an irish last name. so if we gave our kids any irish first names, they'd sound super irish, even though 1) they'd only be at most 25% and 2) we're not really traditionally connected with our irish heritages.

that said, I really like the name Seamus, but won't use it for exactly that reason.

I like Bridget. I *hate* the names with the extra letters that have become trendy lately -- Isabelle, Juliette, Bridgette, Annabelle, etc. instead of Isabel, Juliet, Annabel, etc. They just seem too busy to me.

I like Bee:)

I used to kind of like the name, but it's been ruined for me by R. Kelly's "Trapped In the Closet."

But if I had to pick, I'd go with "Bridget."
