Ba-zil. (The British pronunciation of the spice herb - it's a herb, not a spice - is the same way, FWIW. Bay-zil just sounds weird to me.)

In the Great Mouse Detective, Basil of Baker Street is 'Baz-il' if I remember correctly. My aunts kitten who was born at the same time was also named 'Baz-il.'

I also am pretty sure that's how it is pronounced in Austin Powers.

yeah, it was definitely baz-il. i know a kid named basil and that's how he's always pronounced his name. to non-americans, it probably sounds like the herb, but to american's, bay-zil would only make people think of the herb. so, since i am american, i think that baz-il sounds better.
