With 5 1/2 month to go we have plenty of time to think of names, i just find it getting harder & harder.

Our new idea is the middle name of Danger.   As in the 'my middle name is Danger'...
many haven't gotten it yet but i think thats part of the charm.

Using it as a second middle name and having a first semi-normal in the case of embarrassment when older.

so far the current contenders are

Roxie Ava Danger (girl)
Clash Rollins Danger(boy)
i admit they are somewhat 'superhero-ish/rockstar' in a way...but i think they flow.

A few other we've been throwing around are:

Girl: Avery. CoCo.  Tierney.
Boy:Finn.  Holden.

I know a kid whose name is Ryan Danger (lastname). He brags about it and seems to like having Danger as a middle name. I don't think it's a good idea, though.

Also, I think Finn or Holden would be much better than Clash.

And I wouldn't recommend giving a girl CoCo as a full first name when it could be a nickname for pretty much anything that starts with "Co"; Coral, Cody, Corinne, etc.

Roxie is okay, but I like it better as Roxanne with Roxie as a nickname. As in Roxanne Ava Danger. I think it flows better, and Roxanne is much more sophisticated, but she could still be Roxie; she could also go by Anne if she didn't like the "rockstar" feel of Roxie.

I think Holden or Finn would be a better choice for a first name. Clash is too rock-star-ish. I think Danger gives the kid the "cool" name without making the first name TOO out there. Clash reminds me too much of the band. Holden Rollins Danger flows better and sounds much more sophisticated. Finn Rollins Danger does, too. Even Holden Clash Danger or Finn Clash Danger sounds better.

I do mostly agree with you on Clash.
Thats more of my fiance, the more i think of Holden Rollins the more i like it.

If you're going to with something like Danger as a middle name, I'd go with something much more conventional for a first name. It's just that with a middle name, he/she can hide it if they REALLY want to. But it's much harder to hide/change a first name, and once it's there, it sticks.

Holden and Finn are okay names, and so is Roxanne (as opposed to Roxie), but Avery, Tierney, CoCo (especially this one!), and Clash are a little too much.

I was looking for names that have that same kind of alternative feel to them without being too off the wall. Hopefully there's something there that will catch your eye.

I agree with a_green_faerie, though: I think it's better to give a conventional (at least to an extent) name and let the personality set them apart. A name like that is basically forcing a lifestyle on a kid, when they might WANT to go for the whole conventional black-tie corporate office thing. And with a "weird" name, it might close some doors for them because every time they send in a resume for a job, people are going to be like "Are you joking??" Danger as a middle name is one thing, but a first name should be something that a kid can grow up with.

I like Finn and Ava. To be honest, I'd totally snark the rest. Just..not good. Sorry. I don't like it It bugs me when people turn naming their children into some sort of fashion accessory. Let their personality be charming, don't saddle them with some sort of silly name for the sake of it.

I appreciate the honesty, which i why i even decided to post.
While pouring over baby name books you sometimes can become delirious.
Real world action is exactly why i'm here, sometimes family and friends are too biased on certain names which makes it hard to discuss possibilities.

We want something original but not too out there.
We're aren't Matt & Mary types but we also aren't Apple & Pilot Inspektor either.

I almost named my hypothetical daughter Seraphim. I'm over it now, thankfully. It's cute in theory, but I think it's a bit too 'out-there' to be serious.

If you want my honest opinion, and I'm not trying to be rude, Apple is a far better name than Clash or Danger.

Roxie is a cute nickname but not a name that wears well on its own. Roxanne is a far prettier name that ages well. She could be Roxie, Rox, Xanna, Anne, Anna, Annie...I like name with lots of nickname options. Ava is nice, although popular.

CoCo isn't a good name for anyone over the age of seven. I mean, a nickname is one thing but not a first name. Try Coral, Corinne, Dakota, etc. if you're stuck on this as what you want her to be called.

Avery reminds me Fern's brother on Charlotte's Web.

Aw, I kinda like them. There have certainly been some silly/funny names but these don't seem as ridiculous as some others. I think these names have a personality all on there own. Its just a question of if a boy named Clash would live up to the rocker name. :)

They are very rockstar-ish but if thats what you're going for then I say do it :)

As for an opinion on the names, I like Roxie but not Ava (simply because its become so over-used)

Clash is a little out there for me. I don't really have a definite no or yes feeling about Rollins *shrug*

Why not give your child a name that lets him have a fair chance at being whatever he wants to be? Without putting expectations on him?

I'm not saying that i have any expectations of it being a rockstar...
I really don't think a name plays that big of a part
unless you name you kid after family. i.e, the second, third, etc.
I would much rather name my kid Gizmo and allow him/her to make their own life choices than numerous parents that my name a Robert III and expect them to follow in the footsteps of previous lawyers & doctors.

Any child has a fair chance regardless of name because that can be changed.
Personality will show through no matter what.
We all may have a Sarah we knew and hated and makes us judgemental towards all Sarahs we meet in the future...so if the kids name is Clash opinions will form no matter what- to me its very similar.

Children cannot change their parent or upbringing though and if my child ends up hating me because of a name i had to pick out (which i say if a pretty rough thing to do for a person you don't know), they change it but they will never have to worry about having to please me by making a load of money or passing a BAR exam. Nor dissapoint me by being in a band going nowhere or working at the mall.

I will love & respect my kid for who they are,regardless of name.
If i can do that others should be able to as well.

But what if your kid WANTS to take a bar exam and be a lawyer or be a bank president? This has nothing to do with what you expect of her, it has to do with what people are going to expect and think when hearing her name. Can you honestly tell me that the name Clash Danger is going to give her a fair shake at being a state senator if that's what she wants someday?

When she walks into that first big professional job interview and introduces herself as Clash Danger Whoever... people are going to be confused, laugh, think she's from an insane family, wonder if that's her real name. They won't be able to concentrate properly on what she's saying because they'll be thinking about her name.

If she introduces herself as Sarah, someone might think, "Hm, I knew a Sarah who I hated" and then will let it go, because they probably also knew a Sarah they liked and have heard of ten other Sarahs who were all sorts of people. It's neutral. There are a lot of directions you can go with it.

In short Clash Danger is always going to have her name overshadow anything she wants to do. Sarah is not. This is true whether Clash is a rockstar or a lawyer. Her personality may show through but she's going to have a strike against her from the beginning. You may love and respect her no matter what but not everyone will, and she has to live in the real world.

I know perfectly well how rough it is to choose a name for someone you don't know. My daughter was without a name for the first eighteen hours of her life because we couldn't pick one. But just because you're "alternative" doesn't mean she has to be.

I have a co-worker named Cookie. I think is sounds utterly ridiculous and unprofessional and I do everything in my power to avoid calling her by her name because *I* feel stupid calling a grown woman Cookie. While I realize I shouldn't pre-judge a person for their name, I still do it - and so do most people I know when they hear such a cartoon-ish name.

As someone who grew up in the punk scene, I must say that a lot of those names are pretty cliche. Kind of like when you see someone names Rainbow Sunshine and automatically think, "Sheesh. Her parents must have been big hippies."
I do like Avery for a girl. Holden is getting a bit played out. Plus, he wasn't the most likeable character in the world (imo).

My name is Breeze (yeah, really) and I have to tell you, I hate it! I'd try to avoid any name that will generate a million questions. Why is your name Breeze? Were your parents hippies? How do you spell that? (AHH it's a third grade spelling word, how do you think you spell it??) Is it Breeze-y or just Breeze? Do you have siblings? What are their names? ON AND ON. I don't feel like it limited me in career choices or anything like that but it did irritate the hell out of me (and still does) because of the questions. So, I'd avoid clash.
Holden Rollins I love! If our last name wasn't Nichols, I'd be naming my son Holden. Ava was on our list but it's just so popular right now that we nixed it. My little sisters friend told me that her name was supposed to be Tierney but her grandparents said it sounded like a stripper name (???) so they went with Megan. Ever since she said that it's been growing on me, though. I don't think it sounds like a stripper name at all.
Naming babies is SO hard. Our first daughter is named Myra Lee (family name which I LOVE) and now we're pregnant with twins (a boy and a girl) and the whole naming thing has been MISERABLE thus far. We're honestly to the point of, 'fine. you name the boy and I'll name the girl' Good luck in finding the perfect name!

I like Roxie. It's my dog's name. I think Roxanne brings to mind the Police song about hookers, and Roxie as a given name won't age well. How about Roxanna? Ava seems very mainstream and trendy compared to your other names. I love Avery. Tierney's fine, but I don't like it much because I know three guys with this as a last name. Coco would make a fun nickname for something like Colette, Columbia, Coriander, Cosette, or Cosima. Maybe Roxanna Coriander Danger? Coriander Tierney Danger?

I'm going to chime in here and say that Clash is way too cliche and silly for a given name, especially if the middle name is going to be Danger. I love Holden, even though the character was kind of crazy. Fionn or Finnegan is pretty cool too. How about Finnegan Rollins Danger, or Finnegan Danger Rollins? It has a quirky feel to it without being overly silly sounding.

If you're completely set on Danger then I think Ava sounds too similar and I prefer Roxie as a nickname. How about Roxanne Avery Danger?
