I really don't like it. Is he going to be a hunter? Probably not. I don't like these medieval occupations/surnames as first names, unless there's a family connection, like the maiden name was Hunter, or something.
you never know... my aunt considered it for my cousin, & i did for my son. & in our family we do have an over abundance of avid hunters. so, our kids *might* end up being hunters lol.
But honestly, Hunter is one of the better medieval occupation names. At least it implies an important task or occupation. Something like Cooper, on the other hand, implies that he's going to be making barrels. Not to say that making barrels isn't important, but really.
yeah, my grandfather, his friends, my dad... they go all over. they just went to North Carolina, are going to Canada soon, Colorado, Wyoming. he basically travels all over the US doing it.
i kinda hope my son doesn't get that into it, because it's a really expensive hobby lol. if he does, he can get into when he's over 18 & out of the house, paying his own bills hahah.
Exactly! My dad has always hunted. It drives my mom crazy that he spends so much money on it. My SO is more into football than hunting...so hopefully my potential sons will be into football like he is and avoid the hunting thing. Haha.
yeah, my grandmom sometimes has a fit over what the trips cost... but he always comes back with enough meat to last like an entire winter. plus, it gives her time alone. they are both retired now, so they drive each other nuts haha.
Well, my dad is the only one in my immediate family who eats deer meat. Plus he never actually kills anything 'cuz he is on terrible leases. Not to mention the fact that my mom's birthday is right at the beginning of hunting season and this year my dad told her that if he would've realized that her birthday would conflict with his hunting he wouldn't have married her. Sooooo...as far as she's concerned, hunting is no longer an important hobby. Haha.
I know that people still hunt, but it's usually not their primary occupation, that was my point. :P And even hundreds of years ago, people were given the name Hunter as a surname if they hunted.
Yeah, I agree and understand. It was just interesting to take that sentence a bit out of context. Especially considering how closely involved I am with hunters. Every male in my family has hunted and I recently moved into a new house and it is literally about 3 minutes from a deer lease and whenever I go outside I can hear gunshots. Haha. Sorry for somewhat poking fun at your statement. I do understand where you're coming from, though! =)
It all started as a joke. I'm fertile and ovulated on opening day of hunting season. When we were hunting, I threw it out there as a joke (saying if we conceived this month we would have to name the baby "Hunter" or "Forrest") and he loved Hunter.
This whole family lives for hunting. In fact, all of the men are leaving MI today to drive 12 hours to Virginia to go hunting in the mountains.
I like it. I went to school with a guy named Hunter. He was a babe, but I think people only liked him because of the name. It was mysterious, cool, and sexy.
Ditto! I'm pretty sure the Hunter at my school would've been well-liked even if he'd been another Jason or Ryan or something, but the name definitely added some mystique.
i love the name Hunter. i considered it for my son, his name would have been Hunter James Clark lastname. James Clark being my grandfather's name... & well, he IS an avid hunter. lol.
A girl I went to high school with is having a baby in December and she's naming him Hunter Gage. I don't despise the name, but I don't hate it either. I wouldn't use it, but I don't mind when other people do.
It makes me think of a little kid. I know an absolutely adorable little boy named Hunter, but I have a really hard time picturing it on an adult. It just seems very...age-specific.
A couple of people have said they don't like the killing, violence association... I don't get that from it, I think more of a wolf stalking prey, not the actual killing part.
i have a soft spot for the name because it's my lil bros name.. i would never use it though.. just not my taste.. (they named him that because his dad is a nunter.. bleh..)
I'm not much on occupational names. I don't like Hunter on either sex, but the first Hunter I knew personally was a girl, so I consider it a more feminine name.
I don't know, I guess it just seems like the name is tempting fate and Hunter might eventually go on a murderous rampage and everyone will say, "Funny...Hunter."
Although it would make for an easy title when they make a "20/20" special on him. "Night of the Hunter."
I HATE that name. It sounds so violent and disgusting. I would never ever ever name a child Hunter for those reasons, and also because I'm a crazy hardcore vegetarian so yeah. Bleeech!
I went to school with a cute boy named Hunter, so maybe I'm biased, but I like it. It sounds strong. But then, I tend to like names like that, anyway; Chance and Chase are other favorites.
I think people need to keep in mind that "hunting" doesn't always refer to the chasing and killing of furry creatures (although I'm not opposed to that definition, either). Half the time, when my husband's uncle hunts for big game, he does it with a camera. Children like to go on treasure hunts. I like to hunt for bargains at the grocery store. I'm constantly hunting for my car keys before I leave the house.
I know two Hunters. One is about eighteen and the other is three. I don't really have any special feelings towards either of them.. but I do like the name. It's definitely not one of my favorite names but I like it. I think it depends on what part of the country you're in, and if you're in a big city or not, as far as the how the name is going to sound to others in general.
