So, I've been thinking about the name Aurora recently, and I've decided that I like it. What do you guys think? The only thing that I don't like is that she could potentially be called Rory, which I hate.

Also, the post on twins got me thinking - how do y'all feel about matchy-type names for twins? Twins run in my family, so I think about this quite often. Personally, rhyming names (for twins or siblings) disgust me (my grandmother tried to name her children Penelope and Dennis so that she could have a Penny and a Denny, but my grandfather thwarted that plan by changing Penelope to Christine when he filled out her birth certificate), but I kind of like alliterating names - my dad and his twin both have names that begin with M. Some of the "logical" names featured on Behind the Name are kind of cool, too.

Anyway, thoughts? And, just for fun, some of my favorite match-y combos are:

Aidan & Anna
Brendan & Sarah [Irish for "prince" and Hebrew for "princess"]
Ethan & Emily
Luke & Lola
Roderick & Ruby

Carina & Lyra [constellations]

twins run in my family too..

my grandmother and her twin are:
Laura & Lucille

i don't like rhyming names but i have given all my pets "S" names.. so i guess that means i'm a fan of alliteration.. however, i don't have any alliterating names on my list of favorite names.. so, if i do get to have twins (which i'd love) i don't think i'd give them alliterating names.. i think as long as they both have strong names or names with a similar background or meaning (like you mentioned prince and princess) that would work for me.. :)

i forgot..

i think the name aurora sounds pretty.. and i love the name rory.. (liked it before gilmore girls, btw.. hehe)

however, it always brings to mind sleeping beauty.. just as ariel makes me think of little mermaid and jasmine makes me think aladdin.. so, i could never use any of them..

I really like matching names when they match in meaning. I wouldn't give my children alliterating names, if I had twins, but it doesn't bother me all that much. What I absolutely cannot stand are rhyming names, or super similar names, like Deanne & Dionne.

I like your idea of matchy..

Anabelle and Aurelia
Allegra and Aria [music theory]
Sicily and Elysé [places]
Scarlett and Poppy [red]
Ophelia, Juliet and Viola [Shakeseare]
Soleil and Beau [sunshine and handsome in French]
Orion and Leo [constillations]
Jasper and Oskar

I love the Idea of Carina and Lyra, but I don't like Carina.

I don't like Rory for a girl either..but I adore Aurora. Love Rory on a boy though.
I wouldn't shorten Aurora to Rory, I think it's a Gillmore Girls thing that we don't have in England.

I adore the name Aurora! Twins run in my family, too, and if I have girl twins they'll be called Aurora and Kaliadne. I can't think of a nn for Aurora except Rory (who are these Gilmore Girls that you Americans keep chatting on about?); maybe Aura?

alliteration doesn't bother me, especially with like: Ethan & Emily, Luke & Lola, etc. i don't like rhyming names, though, much, lie: Pam & Sam, May & Ray, etc.

i like the Brendan & Sarah combo, very cute. it's got a theme, but it's not in your face.

I absolutely love Aurora, but I have the same problem, I hate the nickname Rory.

I love Aurora. It's on my list. I hate Rory, too, though. :(

I think twins with names that have similar meanings are kind of cool, but as far as the way they sound, I cringe at any matchy names.

I wouldn't go as far as naming one William and the other one Tikitikitimbo, though. They'd have to flow together.

Tikitikitimbo is an awesome name. That's going on my list.

Did you ever read that book (http://www.amazon.com/Tikki-Tembo-Arlene-Mosel/dp/0805006621) when you were little?

As a twin, I'm very much not a fan of matching names. My sister and I are called Amelia (me) and Cressida (Cress for short) which I think flow but don't really match. I know some twins called Laksini and Daksini (though they're Indian where there's somewhat of a tradition for giving siblings matching names) and it's just way too confusing.

I used to be obsessed with the name Aurora when I was about 12-15 and now I wouldn't used it but I still really like it.

That list of matching-but-not-really twin names is so cool!

I like:
Aurora and Dawn
Brendan and Sarah
Daphne and Laura
Deborah and Melissa
Erica and Heather
Grace and Hannah
Jonathan and Matthew
Melanie and Phoebe

Janna and Jason
Kimberly and Kenneth
Linda and Luke
Matthew and Morgan
Noah and Nancy
Paige and Peter
Reagan and Riley
Stephanie and Sydney
Sheridan and Skyler
Stacy and Stephen
Tara and Tegan
Wiley and William

I think Brendan and Sarah, and other non-matchy-yet-matchy combos like that are cute. But I don't like the alliteration/rhyming ones.

Although I think your grandfather did the right thing in the end, God, I would be so fucking pissed if my husband did that.

I had twins in January, and when we chose names they ended up as Twin A- Alexander Robert
Twin B- Benjamin William
which most people find hideously clever that they're "a" and "b" and their names correspond with which was born first.
my brother teases me and asks if the next baby is going to have a "c" name, since then it would continue the pattern.
