Which do you prefer, Gillian or Jillian?

I'm due in May, with triplets. The hubby and I both like the name, but I like the G spelling, and he likes the J spelling. We're still pretty indecisive about other names (we're not finding out the sexes -- so we need three girl and three boy names), and since we both like Gillian, we figured we could use it as a sort of building block. We want their names to be similar, but not too matchy.

Any suggestions for names that could go well with Gillian?  We like classic names, that aren't extremely popular and aren't (too) kr8tyiv.... Like Eleanor instead of Elizabeth, and Brennan instead of Brandon.

wow congratulations! :D

Gillian could be read as Gh-illian, with a G sound as in 'guitar', whereas Jillian leaves no doubt. I think the J spelling looks more modern and the G spelling more traditional.

Jillian Marie
Jillian Francis
Jillian Alice
Jillian Rebecca

these are the first that come to mind :)

I love Gillian, but Jillian looks like a dressed-up Jill to me. I may also be biased because I'm a big fan of both Gillian Anderson and Gillian Armstrong. The only Jillian I can think of is Jillian Barberie. Yuck.

Ditto on the Jillian comment and on the bias due to Gillian Anderson. So my vote goes to the G spelling.

Congratulations! I personally prefer Jillian, since, as has already been said, you can abbreviate it to Jill (Gill seems more like a hard 'g' to me).

I DEFINITELY prefer Gillian to Jillian. As long as you're actually going to call her that, the G is prettier. As has been mentioned, though, there's no phonetically obvious way to nickname Gillian.

I like both, but I think Jillian is slightly better; besides, Jill is nicer than Gill, haha.

Definitely Jillian. Gillian brings to mind Gilligan.

Congrats on your triplets!

I love Jillian--I know I have an instinct to say Gill-ian (gill like a fish) instead of the j sound when I see Gillian.

Jillian with a J is beautiful! I also like Eleanor and Brennan. Max (short for Maxwell) was the first name that came to mind when I tried to come up with a sibset for Jillian.

I'd have to say Jillian for me - because of the nickname "Jill" and the J-spelling leaves no doubt about pronounciation! :-)

I like Jillian a lot. Gillian I always want to pronounce with a hard G even though I know it's incorrect.

I've always liked Rose with it, but I guess that's too popular.

i'm not a big fan of either, but i like gillian better. but, if you're planning on calling her jill as a nickname, i'd stick with jillian since "gill" is usually pronounced with a hard "g" sound.

I'm a bit biased towards Jillian because that's my little sisters name. Plus, I just think it looks better!

Gillian looks better to me. Gillian is the more traditional spelling. Americans changed the G to a J. ::sigh:: I agree with the previous post that said Jillian looks like a dressed up Jill.

A few suggestions:
Maureen, Kathryn, Colleen, Jacqueline, Daphne, Brenna
Garrin, Eugene, Bennett, Callum, Sebastian, Timothy

Congratulations on triplets! :)

Suggestions:

Cole
Caleb
Cory

Miranda
Melody
Samara
Maya

I vote Gillian. If the name is shortened at all, people are going to use a J, not a G, so using the G on the birth certificate is really sort of a compromise.

You could use a combination of J's, soft G's, and hard G's to keep them similar-without-necessarily-matching. Especially if some of them, like Genevieve, use more of a zh sound than a proper soft G (unless you pronounce it JEN-ah-veev, which is fine, too).

Gemma, Genevieve, Geoffrey
Gregory, Grier, Garret
Jennifer, Joshua, Jordan

I really don't like the spelling with a G :( I'm sorry. I knew someone with that name and she pronounced it Gill(like the fish part)-lian. =/ I like Jillian SO much more.
