[identity profile] nearlyalegume.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
This morning I had the newspaper open on the table, reading the birth notices (as usual).  I decided to play a game with my two colleagues.

"Okay," I said, "There are twins here.  Pick the one that's the girl.  The names are Jordan Lee and Logan Taylor."

They are both girls.

Wow. I was gonna say Jordan Lee, because both are popular unisex names.
And even though Logan can be cute on girls, and I have heard of Logan as a girl's name before, it's definitely a boy's name to me. Same goes for Taylor.

I think if you're going to give a girl a 'unisex' name (ie a boys name that you think is cute on a girl) at least give the girl a feminine middle name! I think with a unisex middle name as well, people will go straight to boy.

Logan is a cute name. On a boy. =]

I agree. And I have a soft spot for unisex names. But I would at least give them a definitive middle name. I hate that awkward moment when you are introduced to someone's infant Tyler, Jordan, Morgan, Casey, etc. and they not only have a unisex middle name, but are probably wearing some neutral color like yellow or green.

I don't get what the appeal is of wanting to have an androgynous baby.

I like Jordan better than Logan for a girl...
not in love with either though.

Logan always makes me think of the air-port. I really don't understand it's appeal. At least Jordan has some nice associations (the River Jordan).

Blah. There's nothing "cute" about any of those names on girls.

I would have chosen Logan since I'm finding it's becoming more popular on girls now - I don't know any male Logans actually.

My parents go by Pat and Terry, ha ha.
Their real names are Patricia and Terrance, it's just funny when someone asks for Mrs Terry McWhatever :o)

I HATE all of those, for either sex, except Lee.

I'm a substitute teacher and I play this game every single day that I am in a classroom. I'm getting good too. Once I got thrown though, because I randomly had a female Ashton and a male Tara.

I think they're both really nice on girls. Of course I am a Jordan (and people misprounce my last name as Lee!) so I'm kind of biased.
