[identity profile] hastaxmuerte.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
My brother and his girlfriend are due with a baby girl in about 4 weeks and they need a middle name.
The first name is going to be Sierra, which they came to fairly easily.
A spanish middle name that starts with "M" would be preferred, but not required.

And if it matters at all, the baby will be half american/white and half vietnamese.

Thanks!

I know I'm stupid but I loooove the combo Sierra Nevada.. snowy night is lovely :)

There a Spanish word that I love, I don't think anyone uses it as a name but I think it would work very well: it's Matiz, it means nuance, and it could short for Matilda

Sierra means "mountains"... the Sierra Nevada is a quite formidable mountain range in California, actually.

no, Sierra means 'evening' in spanish :)
and Nevada means 'snowy'

but I know it's a chain of mountains, that's where I had it from :P
quite tacky, I know!

I'm not sure whether you're kidding or not. If you want to contradict somebody, you might at LEAST check out Wikipedia or Babelfish.

Wiki (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sierra), but please feel free to look up other language sites or a real paper page dictionary.

I have to apologize here, I've had this (incorrect) information for a long time, I'm pretty sure I read it on some baby names site. I checked my spanish dictionary, and you're right about Sierra, the only word for evening is 'noche'.
Thanks for pointing that out :)

No worries, though I very much had a O_o type of reaction, as I'm sure you've guessed.

Mariana? Marina?

When I lived in Spain as a little girl, my sister's best friend was Maria del Mar (Mary of the Sea), called Mar. I've always liked it.

I haven't seen it suggested here yet, but a Spanish "M" name for girls that I've always kind of liked is Milagros (mi-LA-grows) which means "miracle(s)".

Sierra Milagros

Is Marina Spanish? That's one of my favourite names.
