Elana or Alana?

Alana has been one of my favourite names for a while now because i love the nickname Lana.
I never even thought of Elana untill today and realised that I could get the nickname Lana out of it and Ella (which i LOVE).

So which do you prefer?

How are those pronounced? I want to say Elana as EH lah nuh. Alana is UH lah nuh. But then I know a girl with the name Alana, but pronounced UH lay nuh.

I think I'd prefer Alana though, no matter how it was pronounced.

the only nickname i like for Alana is Lana.
I don't like Ally at all, and Ana reminds me of the 'nickname' of anorexia.

See, thats what bothers me about ana names.
I don't think many people assosciate 'ana' with anorexia, but I suffered for many years, and still do to an extent. It's pretty well known around my friends & boy etc.. my favourite name would be Anabelle if it wasn't for the ana thing.
It's not a big deal to me really.. but boy thinks it is.

Elana sounds more delicate to me and also having the same vowel 3 times in a name could get boring.
In addition, Alana in my mind is a female 'alano', which is a breed of dog.

I pronounce them differently -- Eee-lahn-uh and Uh-lahn-uh.

I like Alana better. Elana reminds me of Elena, which is another pretty name.

I like them both.
I prefer Alana more though, because that fits into the legit name catagory, whilst Elana seems a little more contrived and a bit faddy.. the ella- craze and the -ana craze made into one.

I pronounce them completely different. Elana I pronounce as Elaine with an "ah" at the end. Alana I pronounce ah-la-nuh. I don't like either but I think I like Elana better because of the possible nns.
