what are names you like, but would never ever use, and why?

aster -- too close to ass.
digby -- i think it's adorable, but it sounds like a dog name, and i can't imagine an adult being named this.
huckleberry -- i love the nick name huck, but too close to a swear word.
hadley -- too preppy, yuppie, suburban, etc.
luella -- cute, but much to cutesy, i can't see a adult named this.
ellaraine -- i think it's beautiful, but too bizarre for my liking.
arlo -- i like the connotations, but i just can't imagine naming my kid this.
rufus -- same as digby.

Analiese - too much like "anal ease"
Anais (a-NI-us) - too close to "anus"

Ashley (m) - I love it, but it's too popular on girls and I wouldn't want my son to be picked on for it.

Robin (m) - same reason.

Kelly (m) - Ditto.

Adrian - I like it a lot, but since my best friend's name is Adrienne, I wouldn't use this, unless it was a middle name.

Michael - It's my favorite, but unfortunately, it's also my brother's name.

Tucker - It's too close to "fucker." I also like Huck, but as a nickname for Henry. That way he can avoid the references by going by Hank instead. With Tucker, he has no choice, because Tucker/Tuck both have that strike against them.

India - Love the way it sounds, but I have absolutely no connection to India.

Eugenides - Love the name, love the character, but I don't think I need to explain why I wouldn't use it.

Michael - I love it, but it's too popular, and I hate the nickname Mike.

Emmeline - Sounds too close to Emily.

Nicholas - I have a cousin named Nicolas.

Victoria - I'm not sure why I don't want to use it, actually, but I don't, even though I really like it.

Lourdes: Because it's both Madonna's daughter (too obvious) and a famous city in France
Blue: It's a colour and I don't think she will be taken seriously when she's an adult.
Meadow: See above.

Penelope. I think it is absolutely beautiful, but I hate the nn Penny, which she would be almost certainly be called. Plus, I know kids tease kids with "P" names.
Ditto with Clementine, minus the P, but "Clemmy" is just as bad.

Similar for Edith and Tempest---love the literary connotations behind both, but I can't imagine the teasing they would be put through. Seriously, kids can be such little jerks! ;)

If you would just pronounce Anais like Ah-nah-ee(s)...it's a lot less close to anus.

haha I referred to my period as Eve, I was quite sad when my track coach named his daughter that.

The story behind Eve is from that Lindsay Lohan movie "Life Size" where this doll, Eve, comes to life and constantly says, "I'm your special friend!"

I really love the name Payne, but everyone seems to hate it. I tell people I like this name and they automatically say "... and Panic?" So if adults are teasing *ME* about naming a child that, I can only imagine how much my child would be teased.

Kelly (m) - It's rare when I meet a girl named Kelly, almost every one of the many Kellys I know are men!
