Today while I was waiting for my tire to be fixed, I was flipping through a magazine and came across a family with the following sib set:

Ishtar (f)
Ashur (m)
Aturina (f)
Nineveh (f)

Personally, I think they're all extremely ugly names. What makes it even more confusing is that, although Dad wasn't in the picture...mom and all the kids looked very much Caucasian, so I can't even dismiss it as being cultural names.

EDIT Thanks to google, I was able to find the following:

Ishtar is the Assyrian and Babylonian counterpart to the Sumerian Inanna
Ashur, the main god of Assyrian mythology
Nineveh was an important city in ancient Assyria

So, the only name I can't fit into the "theme" is Aturina

Ashur looks like a kr8yv spelling of Asher, so I highly doubt they're cultural names.

Look at my edit, I was able to find a semi-common thread to three of the names. It seems Ashur ISN'T just a kr8tv spelling of Asher.

Asher is also not a Christian name.

It's a Jewish name, is it not?

I don't hate Ashur. The rest.. well if it was cultural (their culture, not just a random one) than I would understand. But otherwise, it's a little odd.

Thanks for the info, that was the only one not coming up on a search engine. I guess it's possible that it has to do with their culture, then. Even still, I'm not that fond of the names.

If Nineveh is pronounced Nee-neh-fay then I think it's pretty =)

Nope, it isn't. Try Ni-NUH-vuh.

I like the historical significance behind most of the names, and absolutely love Nineveh (although I wouldn't use it. There's also a town by that name in NY state..)I don't think I'd use any of them

Any time I see the word "Ishtar," all I can think of is Tommy Pickles shouting, "REPTARRRR!"

I like Ishtar, although I think it's a bit too OTT for me to ever use.
