have you ever met someone with a really nice or pretty name... & they have a nickname that just does not do the name justice? or perhaps a name that you feel loses it's beauty when you break it down into smaller names or nicknames?

my friend has a son Julian, which i think is a really nice name. they almost always call him Jude or Lee. not that i particularly dislike either Jude or Lee, but i don't feel they do the name Julian justice. to me, it's one of those names that is really nice as a full name, not when you break it down into anything else :\

I have a friend named Veronica, and people call her Vern.

I never known anyone personally, but I think all the nicknames for Elizabeth don't do the name justice. It is too dull for my taste, but it is pretty. Libby, Betty, Lizzy and Ellie are all just blah, in my opinion. I don't really like Lisa either, although that one's great compared to the other nicknames.

I think maybe it's from the song Hey Jude? Because John Lennon wrote it for his son Julian but Julian didn't sound as good in the song so he changed it to Jude. Well, that's what I've heard anyway. So maybe that's where the parents got it from.

No, they called him Jude anyway. It was a nickname for Julian before the song.

it was actually written by paul mccartney for julian lennon when john divorced julian's mama. and to my knowledge, it was originally supposed to be called 'hey, jules' but it was changed to 'hey, jude' later because it sounded better. jude wasn't a nickname for julian i don't believe.

Hah, I feel exactly the opposite: I love Sam, but dislike Samantah so much!

Me too. I like Sam, not Samantha.

I'm sooo with you on Samantha!
It such a sultry name and Sam just reminds me of an old fisherman with a mustache :/

my son's name is julian, and the only nicknames he's ever gotten were #1 JU-JUBE #2 jules #3 droolian #4 mayor droolian poopenmeyer.

my point is he mainly gets called julian, because it's a beautiful name.

Julian is what I'll name my son if/when I have one. I like the nickname Jude. Lee, not so much. I like full names better than nicknames, though.

My uncle's name is James, and I love it, but he always gets called Jim and it KILLS ME (although I call him that, too, because unfortunately, my uncle is just NOT a James). Same with his son, Anthony, who they call Tony. I always call him Anthony, though (as does his little brother). I hate the nicknames, but I love the full name.

Also, my brother's name is Michael, but he goes by Mike. I don't HATE Mike, it's not horrible, but Michael is just so much nicer. I generally call him Michael, though.

That's why I crossed it off of my list, too. Well, that, and I wouldn't want people to think he's named after my uncle. It's too bad, because it's a great name.

My cousin recently had a baby and named her Iliana. They call her "illy."

Illy? I'm not sure I like that. It's like calling your kid Sicky. lol
Iliana is pretty though.

My fiance's brother is named James, and always goes by Jim or Jimmy. Such a waste of a lovely name. Plus, I can't take anyone named Jimmy seriously.
Also, I have a friend named Margaret and she goes by Peggy Lee, which is just a damn shame.

Julien would have been my name, had I been a boy.
I personally don't care for the name... it's French, and I've only met weenies named Julien.

My friend is named Imogen, and she used to hate it, so got everyone to call her Imy. I like Imy, but I think Imogen is such a beautiful name!
Most of my friends with nns [Dave, Mike, Jamie] I call by their full names most of the time anyway. I'm the only one that does it!
