Hello again. I'm still sorting out names but I was thinking about the middle name thing and have a question. If I give my daughter two middle names how does that work? Like when they ask for a middle initial which one would she give?

I have a few friends with two middle names, and if the form asks for middle initial, they give the first middle name. For example, my friend's name is Hilary May Sophia _____. She always signs things Hilary M. _______ and considers "M" to be her middle initial.

I like the idea of two middle names, especially if you feel like you have to honor specific family members (I know that is really important to some people), or if you have a difficult time choosing between names. I don't like the idea of more than two, since the names tend to get too long, but two isn't bad at all, and despite what people say, it's really NOT that much of a hassle.

She would probably give the first one, but she could pick whatever one she wanted so if the second looked better or sounded better, she could go with that one too.

I have two middle names. I use the initial of the second one, but I don't know why; I just think of it as my main middle name. Not a lot of people know about my first middle name; it's kind of like my little secret. I plan on going by it as an alternate first name next year when I go to college, though.

Whoa, that is probably really confusing to an outsider.

May I ask why an alternate first name?

I want change. It'll symbolize me leaving behind the person I used to be. And I think it suits the person I am now better than my first name.

my friend did that... all through school he was known as Trey, his real name being Morris Pratt lastname III- hence "Trey". when he went to college, he started going by Morris. i was sooo confused when i ran into him & kids were calling him that haha.

i wanted to do that when i moved, start going by Jenna, rather than Jenn. my first name is Jennifer, btw. but it never stuck lol

My best friend's name is Holly Ann Kirsten Lastname

Both middle names appear on all the school roles/certificates/forms etc...

I guess when your daughter is older she can decide.

I have two middle names, both beginning with C, so that makes it easy.
Whenever I get a document though, it only says 'Colleen', not 'Campbell' so I assume it's only the first name that's used.

We will probably end up giving our son two middle names... when he's old enough, he'll be able to choose whichever middle initial he wants to use. He could even use both...

As for before he's old enough, I'd probably just initialize both.

Firstname O. E. Lastname

my son has two middle names. on his social security card, birth certificate, official documents it is the entire name. on other documents (like when i have to fill out forms for court with his father) we just put Ryan J. lastname, rather than Ryan J. C. lastname. i suppose we could put both, though.
