I'm almost certain there was a post on this name recently, but I couldn't find it, so I made another.

a) Do you guys prefer Lily or Lilly?
b) Is it too popular to ever consider? (I won't be having kids for over ten years, hopefully, so what I am asking is, will it be dated?)
c) What do you think of it in general?

Thanks!

A) Lily - just simpler, and directly relates to the flower, which is the appeal for me.

B) Hmm not really, depends where you are and what you'd consider too high/popular. It's not so hot as to seem fadish though. So shouldn't be dated really (top names from '97 are still fairly well used now). I can picture it for any age, so that's good.

C) I really love it, on it's own merits and that it honours my mother (her first name means lily). It's too popular for me as a fn [top 20 in the UK], so I plan to use Liliana as a mn.

I like Lily better, although I don't mind Lilly.
I don't think it will be dated in 10 years, because it's simple and not creative, but I'm really not good at foretelling trends, so ;)
And I think it's a beautiful name, just not really my style. I'm more into unusual names =)

It used to be one of my top names for a girl, but then I realised how insanely popular it is. Then I also realised that it's just a bit too girly and flowery and cutesy for me. I stil like it, possibly to use as a middle name as my grandma's maiden name was Lilley so it'd be a nice way of honoring that side of the family. I think I prefer Lily to Lilly, but that is subject to change no doubt! Though it is really popular at the moment, I consider it a classic so I don't think it'll become dated.

I definitely prefer Lily over Lilly.

It's fairly popular, but I don't think it's too bad. I'd consider using it, regardless. Many of the top names right now have been on my list of favorites for years, so that doesn't faze me.

It's one of my favorites, period. It's classic, simple, beautiful, and has pleasant connotations.

I prefer Lily and I think it's a lovely name and won't be dated. IDK if you ever watched step by step (LOL) but they had a baby named Lily and this was, what, ten years ago? If I heard someone's name was Lily, I would not automatically be able to assign them an age in my head

Lily is WAY older than Step by Step :). Wasn't there a Lily on the Munsters? And I think Lily even goes back to the 1800s :).

Oh definitely. I have known some really old Lilys and some really young Lilys, but you can't typecast it as either one.
My point was that ten years ago, it was a name used on tv and tv names are often "popular" ones at the time, yet it hasn't gone anywhere. I didn't think to go as far back as the Munsters, Lily Lambert was just the first tv Lily that popped into my head :o)

And it is a valid point, because old fashioned names also can become trendy and work in waves. Abigail is as old as they come, but tends to have waves of popularity.

I prefer Lily with one L, (well, 2 in total, one in the middle) because it resembles the flower. I also prefer Lilith to Lillian

Lilith, for me, would remind me too much of Frazier's ex-wife.

1. Lily. For some reason "Lilly" reminds me of a little fat girl tumbling all over the place. In fact the first time I EVER saw ass crack was this girl in my first grade class named Lilly, and I was like...gross, girl.
2. Probably.
3. I really like it. It's very light and pleasant to me without being boring. It makes me think of Monet.

1. I prefer Lily. It looks weird with the extra L in it.

2. Like Jessica, Ashley, and whatever name from the 80's that were popular, I think it will loose it's popularity sometime.

3. I think the name is adorable! It's on my favorite name list, but I don't think I'll use it.

a) Lily
b) I don't think so
c) I LOVE it. I'd use it.

1) I like Lily with one L.
2) I really don't think it's *that* popular, and I think popularity matters less than overall quality of the name.
3) I like it a lot on a little kid, but it seems way too cutesy for an adult. I like it as a nickname for Elizabeth (which is actually pretty common), because then she can be Lily, but she can also be Liz or Beth or Elizabeth or Libby or 57585959 other nicknames.

I love the name Lily.

I prefer Lily versus Lilly because my cousin's name is Lilly. I won't be having kids for a long time, either, and I plan on insisting that my first daughter is Lily Alice after my great-grandmother (Lilian Alice).

I had Lily in mind just today!

a) Lily sounds more formal, Lilly more nickname-ish
b) it's common now, there's no predicting it in 10 years from now, I guess
c) I don't know why, but it feels totally like a nickname, even Lily. Maybe because it's the same syllable twice

In Australia Lily is waaaay to popular. I actually like it spelled Lilli but from your choices I'd pick Lily :)

My sisters name is Leah, and she calls herself Lilli, I love it spelt like that too.

I'm tired of Lily now; being a fellow Aussie

Lily.

I don't really understand it's popularity.

I suppose it is sort of pretty, but I find it plain and kind of boring.

I love Lily. It's on my short list, despite its popularity, it's so pretty I'll never get tired of it. I also like Lillian and Liliana.

I didn't read through all the comments, but my niece is Lillianna. We call her Lilli. ;)
