Charlie, for a girl

Recently, I really like the name (well, nickname) Charlie for a girl. My mom was called Charlie by some of her girl friends (her last name was McCarthy, so that's where that came from), and someone I know randomly decided to call me Charlie one day (not knowing it was also my mom's nickname). Anyway, I think it's sort of cute for a girl. The full name Charlotte is okay, but I don't really see myself using it. And I really don't like Charlene, and can't think of any other "char" names. Also, my mom's name was Margaret Mary, which is also my real name (I haven't really used it since I was like fifteen), and I really don't think I like it enough to pass it on (MAYBE using Margaret as a middle name somewhere), but I could call a girl Charlie in honor of my mom, without actually using her name, ya know?

Would it be too big of a stretch to have a girl and name her Caroline and call her Charlie?

I also like Joey for a girl, but can't think of any names I like where I could use Joey (I don't like Josephine enough to use it, or Joanna or Johanna).

I knew a girl called Charlie, only she spelled it Charley =) It's cute on girls, I think.
Well, naming her Caroline and then call her Charlie isn't too far of a stretch, I think. Especially since one can get Jack out of John (yes, yes, I know it isn't that strange, but to me it is ;)).
How about those 'Jo' names:
Jolene
Joelle / Joella / Joely
Joliet
Jolise
Jolyn
And this is a bit of a stretch too, but you could also give her a 'Gio' name (like Giovanna) and then call her Joey ;)

ok so I am pretty much in the same boat as you since I like both Charlie and Joey for girls.

Charlie I like with Charlotte...but you can use Charlize with it. or something like that too. Caroline is a stretch I think but it could work

Joey im in the same thing too bc im not crazy about Joanna, Jospehine or any of those. I do love Jordana though which I think i s a strech but hey it could work

OMG, I love Giovanna! Never thought of that. HMMM.

See, in addition to trying to find pretty names, I'm stuck on the idea of 8-letter names, so that would work. My brother and sister-in-law gave all three of their kids 8-letter names (they didn't mean to start the trend, but the first two both had 8 letters, and when they were pregnant again, I was like "you have to do the same for this one"). They are Dominick, Lilliana and Scarlett. My sister-in-law is considering Emmaline if they have another girl ('cause I suggested it, yay!).

So thus I'm stuck on Caroline (the names I used to like were Emma and Hannah, but they're SO SO SO common now). I also like Victoria a lot (I'd be weird and call her Ria or something). And oooh, Giovanna is awesome!!! AHH!

I think you could use Joey for Jordana. That could work. HMMM.

I'm waiting for someone to tell me if I wanna call my kids Charlie and Joey to just name them that. But I want them to have girly grown-up names to fall back on, ya know?

Oooh, Charleigh looks pretty, but I don't know if I would use it. I like Leigh (as opposed to Lee) by itself. And I think Ashleigh looks pretty. But one of my best friends is Ashley, and I think she'd kill me for using something like Ashleigh, because she'd think it was nuts. lol

I really really like it, as a nickname only of course. Caroline --> Charlie is, as you said, a stretch, but plenty of common nicknames (Jack from John, anyone?) are as well, so I say go for it.

Yea Charlie and Joey are cute but id def only use them as a nn. I mean if you think of a class list at school or something...they would def get mistaken for boys.

I think Charlie is okay, but I only really like it as a nickname, mostly for Charlotte (I don't like Charlene, either). I think it'd be okay to use it in honor of your mom, but it might cause a lot of "wtf?" looks. It might be a stretch for Caroline, but you could probably make it work.

Not Charline or anything, just charlie and i think its adorable. ... I ALSO like the name Joey for a girl, i was thinking of using it, but my brothers name is Joey. So that would be weird?

what about using Jo as a middle name and calling her Joey? I like Amy Jo a lot. Margaret Jo is kind of cute.
I have the same feelings about Charlie... I think its ADORABLE on a girl but I don't know if I like the name Charlotte enough. I personally think Caroline is too much of a stretch, but I've heard weirder things.

I don't really like Charlie for a girl. I knew a girl Charlie in college and she hated that every teacher she ever had assumed she was a boy. It might not be so bad with a girly real name.

I don't think I'd name my girl after my brother. That would kind of suck. "Yeah, I was named after my uncle Joe."

I have an uncle James and a girl cousin Jamie and my uncle gets really mad is you say my cousin is named for him.

I knew a girl (now in her 30s) whose given name is Joey. It was cute when she was young, and didn't seem weird at all as she got older.

And Charlie seems much less like a nickname on a girl.

I love the nickname Joey for a girl, it's one of my favorites. I too have a problem with liking full names for it though. The one I like the most is Joely (which I say either joel-ee or joe-ah-lee)

i went to school with a girl from Germany whose name was Charley.

people always got confused on its pronunciation though. a lot of people pronounced it shar-lee, but she kept saying it was pronounced like charlie.
