[identity profile] a-purple-dream.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames

Hello, I am a new memeber of this community.  I am 16 years old, H.S Junior so I don't plan to have children for at least 10 years. But I still keep a notebook of names w/ their meanings.  I usually like names that aren't that popluar and foreign.  I am a sucker for almost any name with "elle" ending: Brielle, Mireille, Daniellle etc.

Ok, but you know Mireille isn't pronounced like it has -elle on the end, don't you? Nor is it actually spelled with -elle on the end, you've spelled it two different ways in this post and only one of them is correct. (I'm more than usually protective about that particular name.)

Yeah, people suck at the French language. Philistines, the lot of them.

Hi, great to meet you :)

I don't have a problem mixing name origins/heritages. We live in a very diverse multi cultural society, most people won't even notice anyway.

My brother's name is very traditional and Germanic in origin, with an originally Aramaic (now common Biblical) middle name. While mine is an English word, with a Welsh middle name.
We aren't German, or even Christian. And only very slightly Welsh.
No one has ever commented on that.

The names suit us, and sound pretty OK together. So that's what counts.

You're kind of like me...I like double letters in names.

I hate Brianna, though. I just have a vendetta against it because that's one of the mispronouncements I get with my name.

Mih-rrray, with a rolled R. There's almost a 'ch' (like loch, not church) about the 'mih' sound, too.

If it's pronounced Mirel then it's a corruption of the original. She'd be wise to learn how to pronounce the new name. (The Italian equivalent is Mirella which is pronounced as it looks, if that would make life easier for her.)

The French R isn't a rolled R in the way that the Spanish or Arabic ones are, though.
