Also, a girl I used to work with has a sister named Beatrice. They pronounce it as Bee-at-triss. Odd!

Beatrice doesn't seem that odd to me...maybe it could be considered a bit 'old'...but definitely not uncommon.

The name itself isn't odd. It's the pronunciation. I've only ever heard of it as Bee-uh-triss, not Bee-AT-triss.

I completely dislike the pronunciation Bee-AT-triss, I've always heard it Bee-uh-triss. A friend of mine named her daughter (note the spelling):
