[identity profile] party-girl81.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
Hi i'm new here, my name is Crystal and my husband Ben and I are expecting our first in march. We have 2 girls names picked out but only one boy name and i'd like a backup boy name just in case we can't use the original one, i'll explain,

Boy name- Casper Rayne

Okay i'm mixed black and white and my husband is white and fairly pale skinned, as much as I LOVE the name Casper I think it would be incredibly wrong to name my son Casper if he was more on the light side but we can't seem to think of another boy name. We like names that are fairly unpopular and 5 other kids in the kidnergarten class aren't going to have.

Girl names-
Gabriel Sophia
Pearl Yvonne

"Gabriel" is pronounced just like the Archangel not "Gabrielle". Sophia Yvonne is my best friends name so obviously both middle names are given in her honor.( I think that after 20 years its the least I can do) These 2 names are final and won't be changed. We'll pick one or the other.

So if anyone has any "unpopular but cool" name ideas for a boy for us to add to the name we already have please let me know we could really use the help. Thanks!

P.S. Jasper Rayne isn't going to work because one of my friends is naming their baby that and we're due on the same day etc... it wouldn't be right lol.

I really dont think Caspar would sound at all weird on a fair skinned baby! I think it's adorable...
Why Gabriel, not Gabrielle? i've always thought of Gabriel as a boys name, however i do like it a lot..
What about:
Jared
Caleb
Alistair (i love Ali for a boy)
Sebastian
Rory

My mom's name is Yvonne and everyone misspells it, they spell it Evon if she's making reservations for restruants and stuff. I dont like my mom's name. she doesn't like her name either.

I've never seen Yvonne spelled any other way (certainly not Evon) so those people must not be so bright, lol. So I wouldn't base a kid's name on that.

Lol. well i think they spell it like that because of the E sounding. my mom never corrects them though.

I don't like Gabriel for a girl, sounds too boy-ish, but it's a good name.

I think it'd be strange to have a kid named Caspar Rayne when my friend's kid is named Jasper Rayne, but maybe you're doing it on purpose? If so, then it's just a matter of opinion so mine doesn't matter, lol. I do like the name, regardless of the kid's skin tone.

I second the name Sebastian that somebody suggested. Unique but nice.

Andrew
Corey
Broderick
Colin

i'm not an expert on babies and pigmentation, but i have known a few biracial couples who have had babies and initially the baby can seem a lot "whiter", but after a week their skin turns a bit "darker". i'm just mentioning this, because it may be hard to tell when the baby is born how his skin color is going to be. i really don't think it would be a problem if he had light skin and was named capser, but i think it's great how concerned you are about it... it's too bad more parents don't put as much concern in their kids' names. ;)

i think the name is cute, but i wouldn't use it.
not saying u shouldn't but at the same time u may want to think that since your baby will be mixed he/she may be dark as an infant but let lighter once older.just something to think about.

lol yeah, i've seen pics of my husband's (and well, mine too i guess) neice, she's 1/4 filipino (my husband's 1/2) and she was pretty light when she was born and then got a lot darker as she got older. i'm not a huge fan of casper but i think that's what you're after :) and i almost spit out my oatmeal at your comment above :)

i too am mixed, very mixed and my skin actually has more of a tan to it now that im older then when i was a small kid.

I totally agree with you. I am very pale myself and kids used to call me Casper in 9th grade :P And if that were my actual name, boy... that would be rough :/

i'm not too fond of yvonne, but i like pearl. i think sophia pearl would sound really nice, but sophia/sophie is getting very popular.
i don't think naming a boy casper would be bad. by the time he's five years old and in grade school, kids will be too young to know about or remember casper.
here are some names that are kind of close to casper or just boy's names that aren't that popular.
carter
casey
castor
cole
colin
corbin
corey
crispin
kyle
parker
spencer

We like names that are fairly unpopular and 5 other kids in the kidnergarten class aren't going to have.

Something you may want to consider: Nearly everybody out there right now thinks the same thing, so they're avoiding giving their children traditional (and in many cases, real) names. Which just means that kindergarten classes of the future are just going to be filled with yoonik names, and you just know someone's going to end up as the fifth Sunshyn3 Leeryk in their class.

Anyway, on to your actual names! I think Casper Rayne would work brilliantly, whatever the coloring of the baby. I mean, if the baby is dark, children could still easily mock him for that couple with the name Casper. But children are going to find SOMETHING to mock about each other, and a name seems less damaging than attacks based on mental or physical qualities.

I also like Gabriel Sophia and Pearl Yvonne, although the boy's name might not be kind to a little girl, especially if she has a short haircut (all three years of middle school, I got asked if I was a boy or girl because my name was Lee and I had a short haircut).

just because a baby is born pale doesn't mean he will stay pale! lots of 'colored' babies darken as they age...

anyway, how about Linus? it's my son's name. unpopular, but (in my opinion) very cool!
