Skyler is boy to me, I know Skylar is sometimes considered the feminine version. Cassidy on the other hand is strictly feminine, that I know of! It's actually so feminine-sounding that it would be impossible for me to consider it a boy's name
Interesting. Thanks for the input. :D You may be right with Skylar/Skyler. I prefer Skylar though, even for a boy. And I think Cassidy is a boys name too... it certainly was originally, anyway, though like many boys names it's become unisex over time. I much prefer it as a boys name though.
Girl's name, both of them, although I can see Skylar on a boy as well.
Skylar is girl's name to me, because someone's daughter was called Skylar and that was the first time I ever heard the name, and Cassidy is a girl's name to me...because the 'Cassi' in it, I guess.
Stacey, Tracy, Ashley, Brandy, Kandi, Carrie, Sherry ...all "ee" names, and all much more commonly girls names... I know that some are unisex, and some were orginally male names, but for the most part they're now used more on girls.
I associate ALL names that end with the -ee sound as masculine names not girls' names. That's really interesting! I mostly associate -ee/y/ie names to be girl's names =)
Skylar is just awful...I've never heard it used on a boy or girl, so I have no thoughts on it. Cassidy, while it is still awful, is a girl's name to me.
I think Cassidy as feminine and masculine because it is my middle name and what my grandpa goes as. Skylar is feminine and Skyler is masculine in my opinion.
i have such contempt for the name skylar, i cant stand it. i really dont think it is either masculine or feminine, and i know both with the name (though the girls name is spelled schuyler) so i dont really have an opinion on that one. but cassidy sounds feminine to me.
I think they're both pretty unisex. I would personally use Skyl(e/a)r on a girl and Cassidy on a boy. I think of the Butch Cassidy connotation and I knew a really annoying girl named Cassidy. While she was annoying, she only ruined the female version of Cassidy for me. Plus, I like the nickname Cass for a boy. Skyl(e/a)r makes me think of the sky, and it just seems to...whimsical? for a boy to me.
Skyler/Skylar is boyish to me; Schyuler always seems more feminine, but no one can pronounce it ("Shoo-ler" is what you usually get). I don't care for the name because there was a holy terror of a child in our neighborhood named Skylar and it always reminds me of him.
Cassidy... meh. It can be either male or female for me, but I don't care for it either way.
I think Skyler/Skylar sounds more masculine but I'm not sure why. It's not really a name you hear in the UK.
Cassidy I can see on a boy or a girl, but it sounds more masculine to me because of the character in Preacher (even though it was actually his surname). I actually almost don't mind it for a boy, but for a girl I think it's pretty horrid. At least it's not spelt Kasidy though, like that character in DS9...

I know people of both sexes with both of those names, though.

Date: 2007-10-23 11:33 am (UTC)Cassidy is definitely girls to me, though it could be masculine what with the Butch Cassidy association and all.
