[identity profile] sweet-caro1ine.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames

I was just watching my daughter today playing with my old Cabbage Patch Kid  (I've had her 24 years) and started thinking about the names of these dolls.  My doll came with the name Ida Adriana.  Now, when I was 7 and was given this doll I remember initially being quite disappointed with the name but I didn't change it and now I quite like it.  So I was just wondering, has anyone else had a Cabbage Patch Doll and what was it's name?

I scrapped the name I was given and named her Molly, after my aunt who gave her to me!

I named all of my toys when I was younger (and still do). Here's a short list of some I remember:

Zoey - the bear I have had since I was a baby. Don't know where the name came from.

Tiffany Louise, Jessie, Thomas, Zach (after the power-ranger), Ashley (after MK and Ashley Olsen), Lucy (after the Hanson song), Bridget - all dolls

More recently: Artan, Raphael, Dragon - stuffed animals from my bf

My cabbage patch doll was named Betsy. I don't remember if I named her that myself or if she came with the name, though. I do know that I didn't like it when I was five-six.

I don't remember what they were, but I remembered that I hated the first name and liked the middle name, so I just called her by the middle name. I'm pretty sure the middle name was Sabrina, actually.

Oh, and the only dolls/plush animals I named when I was little were Mamie, Curly, Chester, Charlie, and Linda.

Lesbia Pelagia

i swear...i can take her pic tomorrow...she sat on the shelf for like 2 months and everytime we went to wal-mart, i would check and beg to get her. finally, she was on sale for 18 bucks and i took her home.

besides that i had 27...yeah...27 CPK's as a kid. i was kinda obsessed...which is why i'm still buying them at 32.

I didn't have a doll like that, but I did have a lot of dolls =D I loved them.
Their names (the ones I can remember) were Melanie, Nina, Saartje (I'm Dutch, people, it's like 'little Sarah) and Liselore 8). Wow. Good times.

I thought Emily Anne was a Cabbage Patch name. But now that seems too normal.
I was searching around online and saw ones named Jewel Josephine and Kimberly Pearl.

My CPK was named Connie but I don't remember if I named her or if that was the name on her certificate. (I wish we could find a listing of their names!)

This is a really strange ceremony and I guess this is why the CPKs had such bad names!!

The Cabbage Patch Birthing Ceremony

Dolls are "birthed" every hour during business hours in a procedure during which one of the resident "nurses" aids the Magic Crystal Tree in producing each doll.

With her are the pink and blue bunnybees that pollinate the kids with crystals, determining if the newborn is a boy or girl.

The nurse comments on how much the Tree is dilated and injects with "Imagicillin," an "experimental but highly recommended" drug.

If the need arises, a "C-section" or "Cabbage section" may be administered.

After the doll is successfully birthed, the audience is asked to provide suggestions for the its first two names--the third of which is always that of the adopter.

These names are then recorded on its certificate and on a name tag, and the doll takes a place among the hundreds that inhabit the facility's nurseries and play environments.

A full-featured Intensive Care Unit is in place to handle premature births and otherwise unhealthy newborns.

that's the "live Show" at the actual Cabbage Patch museum/whatever place in GA

I've been a couple times growing up/taking friend's kids and it's kinda interesting, but they do come up with wacko names.
and those dolls are SUPER expensive (like $300-400), but they are completely different and much much nicer than the mass produced ones in boxes, my friends have some

I had a Cabbage Patch Kid, and her name was Lisa Marie. For the longest time (and before I could read well enough to understand), I thought her name was Lee Summary.

I don't remember what mine was named but I'm sure it was horrible.

They should hire someone to come up with pretty names.

The thing is, they each come with a unique (to CPK) name combination. Considering the number of dolls they sell, it'd be impossible for them all to come with good combinations. That's why you can send in for a re-named adoption certificate.

And my first one wasn't too bad; Brianna Merry.

I had three. My girl CPK was name Larissa Evie

And the two boys were Parker (I can't for the life of me remember what the second name was) and Tyler London.

I don't think that any of them are horrible. :)

I had one who came with a name I hated, something like Frances Valerie. Frances has since grown on me, probably because I love the works of Frances Hodgson Burnett.

Anyway, I renamed my doll Victoria. I could never decide on a middle name.

Tyrone was the only one I remembered. I don't know where little Tyrone went to. I also had with brown yarn hair and a fake one my aunt made, but I don't remember their names.

My sister's boyfriend's mom got his name, Toby, from a cabbage patch kid's box.

I had two, Rosie and Jimmy. I have no idea if those are the names that they came with, or if I made up those names myself, though.

I wish I knew what my CPK's name was. I just called her Babe. how unique eh? I carried that doll everywhere until one day when I was like 5 or 6 I brought her into the kitchen and told my mom I was throwing her away because her head was hanging by a thread at that point. My mom was so shocked that I decided to do that.

Mmmm..I only had one. I remember the name she came with because I had to get my mom to say it aloud for me several times before I could even pronounce it:

Tzipporah Tiffany.

WTF?

I think I actually called her that too, lol!

That's funny, I loved the name Ida when I was a kid, because I read a book with a girl named Ida in it.

I think I might have had a cabbage patch kid, but I don't know what its name was. I basically ignored the thing, because I was born in 1988, and I think the cabbage patch fad was on its way out by the early nineties. :-\
