Just wondering what everyone thought of the name:

Rowan

on a girl? It's my favorite name at the moment but I was talking to my Mom about it and she thought it was ugly and seemed more masculine than feminine... I know it's unisex but I think it sounds fine on a girl...

Any middle name suggestions? I'm partial to Rowan Mary but I might also want to use Mary as a first name instead for another kid.
Thanks!

I used to work with a woman who insisted on that name, wether her baby be a boy or a girl.

I think it's nice and have even considered it, I think it's fine for either sex.

i think its fine on either sex, but i do see it as a boys name. my cousin had a little boy two years ago and his name is rowan.

I know both girls and boys named Rowan. I think it's fine for either.

The only reason I haven't decided to use it is because it's very common among the pagan community, and I didn't want to have yet another Rowan running around among the masses.

It's not common in general from what I've seen, just among the pagan community from what I've witnessed around here. In other areas it may not be the same.

Wow that's really interesting to me. The head of the Anglican church is named Rowan. He's the Archbishop of Canterbury. Kind of the Anglican pope if you will. Wonder if those pagans know that? lol

If I heard the name, I would first think of a boy, but I think it's cute on a girl. Downside is that on a boy, it makes me think of Mr. Bean, and on a girl, it makes me think of that stupid remake of Wicker Man. Man, that was stupid.

Agreed; one of the worst movies I have ever seen (and that is saying a lot).

Even now, all one of my friends has to say is, "Ow, my KNEES!" and we all bust up.

i love that name.. i think it's beautiful, strong name for either a girl or boy.. imho, if you're going to have one child with a unique name like Rowan your other children should have equally unique names.. I think "Mary" as the more common name should be used as a middle name instead of the first name for another child..

you could always use a variation of "Mary", either as the middle name or the first name for another child..

Marianna
Marika
Moira
Maria
Marali
Marah
Mari
Mira
Maren
Marina
Maritza

As for other middle names for Rowan..

Rowan Vivienne
Rowan Rhiannon
Rowan Janelle
Rowan Thalia
Rowan Isobel
Rowan Elena
Rowan Sofia
Rowan Leilani

These are my faves:

Rowan Avri or Avrey
Rowan Autrey
Rowan Abrea (uh-BREE-uh)
Rowan Amari
Rowan Amerey
Rowan Emrey
Rowan Emory

**good luck!**

I know a couple of girls called Rowan [Rowan Kaitlin & Rohan Elizabeth], so can see it for a girl, but personally prefer it as a male name.

For a middle name, I think something long and feminine would be best.

I like it for a boy or a girl.

I think Rowan Marie sounds better, IMO.

It makes me think of Rowan Atkinson, aka Mr.Bean
I'd rather have Rowena on a girl

I know a boy Rowan, I quite like the name.

Also, a girl at my school is named Roanne, which is kind of close.

I wouldn't mind Rowan on a girl, one of the few names that doesn't bother me on the opposite sex!

I've read The Witching Hour a few too many times, so it's feminine to me, but it's also a uber-genius witch who screws a demon and almost gets her poor nice husband killed.

I love it! I like Rowan/Rowen for a girl and Roan for a boy. Rowen is actually my top girls name. I like Rowen because I like the nn Wren.

The mns I've picked out are Rowen Alora and Rowen Morrow

Yeah, I've always seen Rowan as a boy name. Maybe because Rowena is one of my favorite girls' names ever, and I can't really see a girl being a Rowan. And on top of that...I don't like unisex names period, usually. But that's just my opinion. :o)
