I love the name Felicity. I love the old-fashioned quality of it. I love that it means happy. I've overcome a lot of depression and anxiety in my life and I feel like that makes it a very good name choice for a daughter I might have. My maiden name is the German "Froehlich" which means "merry," so I thought it would be a good way to incorporate my family name without actually naming a child "Froehlich."
My questions are:
1. Would you automatically think of the TV show?
2. Is it getting too popular?
3. What are good nicknames for this name? So far I've come up with: Flicka, Flossie, Flix, Lissa and Lissy but I'm wondering if you creative people can come up with any more? Lisa? My husband thinks "Fitty" as in "Fitty-Cent" would be awesome but I'm not so convinced.
ETA: 4. Would my daughter get called "Fellatio?"

Date: 2007-10-14 04:47 am (UTC)first thing i think of is the tv show, but thats because i watched it (practically) religiously. it wasnt a hugely popular show and a lot of people have never even heard of it. if you love it, i wouldnt worry about it. plus, in ten years people will forget that show ever existed.
i knew a girl named felice, which i love, and that was her full name, but i always thought it could be a good nick for felicity too. of the nicknames you listed, i personally like lissy the best. i cant think of any others, sorry.
oh and no i dont think she will be called fellatio. thats a bit of a stretch, even for teenagers. ;)

Date: 2007-10-14 04:48 am (UTC)2. No, I haven't heard many Felicity's. Mostly because I think it's seen a prissy sort of name, at least that's what most people I know have said about it.
3. Lissy, Liz, even.
4. Nope!

Date: 2007-10-14 04:50 am (UTC)2. I don't think it's too popular. I kind of like it, not common. I don't know any girls named Felicity. I also like the idea of using it to incorporate your family name.
3. My nickname used to be Flossy! Absolutely unrelated to my own name...but there you go.
I thought of Felix as a nickname, but that might be too masculine. I think it's cute.
4. I also didn't think of this when I saw the name so IMO, no.

4. I'd sure hope not

2- even if it is, if you love it, who cares.
3- Lissy, Lissa... or maybe a middle name nick name?
4- uhm, yes, maybe. lol

Date: 2007-10-14 07:22 am (UTC)2. No. I've never met or encountered a real person with this name, except for actress Felicity Huffman.
4. I don't think most kids are that clever :)

3. I know two Felicitys, both called Fliss
4. I really doubt it. I wouldn't have thought of it. And even it did somehow happen... Well, that's no reason not to use the name, teenagers can and will turn any name into a dirty word or insult.

Date: 2007-10-14 09:40 am (UTC)Sooo chances are we'll be using it. I don't think of the tv show at all..
Too popular, no.. it's banded around on name boards a bit, but I haven't seen it used much. I think I notice it more becasuse it's a favourite.
I don't care for any nickanme derivative really, but I know two Felicitys. One goes by Fliss the other goes by Fizzy.
No I doubt it. By the time kids are old enough to knowthe word Felllatio they;'ll be out of the name calling stage.

2. Not as far as I'm aware.
3. The Felicitys I've known have gone by Flick or Fliss.
4. I wouldn't have thought so.

I have a friend who's name is Claire Felicity and I think that is a lovely combination.

I don't think the negative nickname will be an issue.

overall I think it's a really really great name!! It's so pretty but still classic.

Date: 2007-10-14 01:46 pm (UTC)I like Lissa and Lissy as nicknames:)
Your daughter would NOT get called Fellatio unless she was doing something in high school that warranted the nickname. Kids are cruel, yes, but sometimes I think people assume they are way more cruel than they really are; the chances of a kid getting a nickname like that are pretty slim. And if they do, chances are good that they totally deserve it.

Date: 2007-10-14 03:14 pm (UTC)I always wanted the Felicity doll and all her accessories. I asked for it every Christmas and birthday, even though it was like $2000 American, and I knew my parents would never get it for me. XD

I like Lissa or Lissy, I'm too uncreative to think up anything else, sorry. Fitty-Cent is awesome, though. :P
I seriously doubt that she would get called 'Fellatio'. That takes too much brainpower for people to think up.

Date: 2007-10-14 03:21 pm (UTC)I think of Felicity Huffman, not the TV show.
I HATE the nickname Flicka for Felicity. Puke! Lisa could be a nickname of Felicity, but I don;t know why you'd want to nickname such a lovely name.
I have a friend Felicia who lovingly goes by Flea, lol.
Fitty... uh... no.
I also don't think that anyone would call her fellatio. By the time you're old enough to know that word, you probably wouldn't be making fun of a girl for having the name Felicity. That doesn't even make sense to me.

Date: 2007-10-14 03:56 pm (UTC)If fellatio ever comes up as a negative nickname, it won't be until later--probably high school or after. Never have I known an elementary or junior high student who bothered with technical terms for anything sexual.
