1) What do you think of the names Ava and Amelia for a sibset? We know we only want two girls at the maximum -- his family prefers mainly male children -- and these were the only two names we both liked. We know Amelia would be the older one. Middle names are still a bit iffy...

2) What are your favorite German names? Girls AND boys. We know we want really strong, strong German names for our boys. We haven't found any German girls names that we both love besides Ada, but it's too close to Ava. If you guys have any suggestions, that would be great.

ETA: We already have two sons, Dierk and Jens.

I think those are cute names.
So...if you have two girls and then a boy or two..are your families going to prefer the boys? =[

In my daughters swimming class are a set of girl twins called Ava and Amelia. I really like both names. I actually wanted Amelia for our first but my husband didn't so we compromised and ended up with an Amy.

For German names, there are lots of names that are common in both the US and Germany that are just pronounced a bit differently. The German names I've encountered a fair amount:
Peter (PAY-ter), Stephan (SCHTE-fon), Florian, Christian, Christoph, Franz (I assume Franzi is a nickname for Franz, but I'm not sure), Markus (MAR-kous), Rolf, Andreas, Thomas (TOE-moss), Johann, Sebastian, Titus, Lucas, Jonas.
For girls some of these might not be as popular, I dunno, but I like: Marille (muh-REAL-(uh), roughly), Andrea (on-DRAY-uh) (I guess pretty much every German girl I know is named Andrea, actually), Elizabeth (but they all go by nicknames), Steffi (Stephanie), Christine/Christina, Sofie, Birgit, Brigitta, Leonie, Anna, Lena, Marie.

I love your sons' names. I never see Jens any where, people think I'm crazy when I mention I like it. =]

How about Adelaide?

I love Amelia, and Ava is nice, but really popular.

How do you pronounce Dierk?

I think those names are too popular, but like them.

I know a girl named Adelaide, and her parents call her 'Addie'. But you're right, it does seem too close to Ava.

I adore both names, Amelia especially.
I'm not a fan of german names, but i do like Anneleise.

I was wondering why no one had mentioned that, you don't necessarily know that you will have girls!

I do like the names Amelia and Ava thought.

I loved Anneleise, but hubby thought the first 4 letters would be anal... and our last name is (seriously) butts... so it was vetoed.

2. My favorite German girls' names are Lorelei, Felicitas and Seraphina. For boys I like Christian and Hans.

What about Amalia? It's German, and very similar to Amelia really.

No offence but that kind of mentality is pretty sickening.
You should be happy with whatever sex you get and only wish that they're healthy. Thought this was the twentyfirst century where everything was equal?
Just because your husbands family are farmers doesn't mean your sons' will want to follow on.
This is why hositals are loath to reveal the sex of the baby in some countries during scans- some take it even further and abort the foetus is female. There are forty thousand more males in china because females are abandoned or aborted. if everyone thought like your family then we'd be stuck.
