I found a new favourite name the other day: Carys.
I absolutely love it. I very rarely like girls names, so to find one I love this much is rare! Haha.

Then I found slight problem with it...
My boyfriend's name is Morris.
Carys Morris rhymes, and sounds awful!

What names have you found that you can't use purely because of the look/sound of it with your names, first or last?

I'm embarrassed to admit this, since it's a trendy name and I don't usually like trendy names, but I love Addison (for a boy OR a girl) and our last name ends in -son. Bummer.

how do you pronounce Carys?

i say it like Care-iss, kind of. not like i'd say Morris, More-iss. it doesn't rhyme to me, just has the same Iss sound at the end. but i know what you mean that it doesn't sound right.

when i was with my son's father, his last name is Blasi (prn. Blay-see)... & i liked the name Jaycie & Casey... which sounded like some kind of stereotypical gimmicky salesperson or a early morning radio host LOL

Heh. I love the name Casey, but it's now become my last name, so I guess I can't use it for our kids! :)

I'm also against using any first names that share an ending sound with the start of our last name. So Jake Casey is out. I just think they're hard to say.

You could just ignore the surname.

I've always liked Vivien, after Vivien Leigh, but my husband's last name starts with V and that's just too many vs in one name.

Out of the question:

Finn
Finna (I loved this name)
Griffin
Finley

And basically any name that ends in -in, -en, -an, -on, -yn. Makes things tough sometimes. Too bad because my favorite names where Jaydin, Jayden, Jaydan, Jaydon and Jaydyn. Hehe.

Yeah, I love Tanith but my boyfriend's surname ends in -th so it would sound awful.

My fiance's last name is Jeffcoat, therefore ALL J names are out plus most names sound awkward with it. Also, you have to be careful not to give B names because of the "BJ" = naughty thing connotation. It is so difficult!

I was almost named Emma, but then my parents realized that Emma McKenna sounded a bit awkward...

Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas have a daughter with that name; it's been on my list for a while.

I really like it!

But yeah, it sucks when a really nice name just doesn't work.

Pronounced (Like in Carrot, not car) CAR-iss? Lovely.

Well, what I meant is that I think people put way too much thought into how the name is going to sound put together. I don't mean that one should name ones kids e.g. Guy Manly or Nils Nilson, but I simply don't understand why people shy away from using a name just because it creates a soundpattern (e.g. alliteration or rhymes). My name has alliteration and it makes my name work very well, and people have commented on its flowing well.

I think Carys Morris works very well together.

"Carys Morris" makes me think of Dr. Allison Cameron on House -- that similar "on" sound on both names -- but in her case, everyone just calls her Cameron, so...

Is another, close name a possibility? Maybe something else using the "Car" beginning?

haha I grew up with a Joe King. and there was always the conversation:
"are you JOKING?" "No, I'm not Joe King, he's over there!"

fwiw, it did take us kids quite a few years to get that one though.

I love Carys! It's so unusual and classy!

My fiance's last name is Huff. Owen Huff sounds like "Oh, enough!" to me. Quinn Huff? Just awful. Henry Huff isn't any good either.

I can't use Gavin, because my fiance's name is Kevin; it's way to close. All of the "K" names are out of the question, because I'm Katherine, and obviously, my fiance is Kevin. Three "K"s are just bad. So, I can't use Kennedy, Kells, Keegan, and Kieran. So sad! I'm still not sure about Carys, Callista, Callandra, Caleb, and Corbin, because it's still three "K" sounds.
