I like it better on a girl, but I guess it's proper

I'd properly associate it more with a boy, and I think it's really cute (though perhaps harder as the child grows older?).

It's the same for me: I've never really heard the name before, but when I saw your post, I rolled the name around my mouth a couple times and I'm starting to really like it!

Hm, is it strange that I automatically think of the sunglasses?

That is all I can think of...sunglasses, 80's, sunglasses. I am sorry!

I'd associate it more with a girl. I like Robert Ellis MacEachern though.

I think it's the type of name that would get a boy laughed at, sorry. :-\

I like Oakley Ellis (the Robert doesn't seem to fit). It's cute!

I think of Annie Oakley and the sunglasses, but I don't think the connection is so strong that people won't be able to get past those associations.

I knew a little boy named Mossimo and I could never get past the brand association. Oakley doesn't seem quite as....attached (for lack of a better word) to the brand.

I like it a lot. My great-uncle was named this; we called him Oak.

Hmm, no. I used to sometimes ride a horse during lessons with the same name, so I think of that, and sunglasses.

If I push the associations aside, it sounds WAY pretentious.

I like Ellis! Though paired with Oakley, it really sounds like you just came from the mall :P (Perry Ellis). Too much brand association at once.

I agree about the pretentious sound. I can't get away from the sunglasses, either. Also, anything ending in a "lee" sound strikes me as feminine-sounding.

I've never heard of the sunglasses. When I heard it I thought of the book Cold Mountain. I can't decide if I like it or not.

I think sunglasses....so I wouldn't use it personally.

I knew a guy with the surname Oakley, so i can't see it as a first name at all really!

Oh yeah, and my other association is with the sunglasses brand!
