[identity profile] searlait.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
I just started working at a childcare center.

A sample of baby names:

Yoyo
Indie
Mirabelle
Tyler
Jack
Jackson
Toryn (m) (tor-IN)
Wylan
Arthur
Sophia
Annabelle ('Annie')
Mei

The day I met Yoyo and Indie was pretty much my favorite day ever, but I started thinking about how hard it's going to be those girls when they grow up.

My favorite from my preschool has been Carys. (Pronounced like Paris, but with a C). For a really long time I thought someone had named their child after Paris Hilton and then when it was corrected I thought some parent named their kid Carrots.

I actually like Mirabelle, Annabelle, and Sophia. I love Jackson, too. I work with a Mei.

I guess there is no hope that Yoyo is an ethnic name?

I grew up in Portland! Yeah City of Roses.

I really like Wylan. It is different with our being too out there.

Does Indie wear little Chuck Taylors and have a Fisher Price vinyl collection? Or perhaps she's a child prodigy who writes for Pitchfork Media? Does she refer to peanut butter and jelly as "overrated," ants-on-a-log as "pretentious," Juicy Juice as "existential"? Is she really into Jim Jarmusch films? Does she watch IFC's "Short Film Showcase"?

Poor kid.

lol. I could see it as a nickname for India, though.

lol. =]

I can only imagine this conversation in the future:

"Hi, I'm Indie."
"Pssh. I bet you are..."

On repeat. For about ten years.

Is Mei of Chinese heritage, by any chance? How is it pronounced, like 'may'? It is Dutch for May, actually. I like it on Chinese kids =)
Yoyo is bad. Indie is kinda cute. I once read about a girl called Indy. But I like Indie better. Oh, and is Wylan Dylan with a 'W'? ;)

Mei means "pretty" or "beautiful" in chinese. it's pretty common for chinese names. :)
Yoyo is also not that uncommon on chinese girls.

I like Indie (sp. Indy) but I always see it as a masculine name. Also, I've thought about naming a pet that, so I'll always have that connotation. lol. I still like it!

I have a cousin named Indie; it's short for Indiana. While I love my cousins a lot, I still think they were on crack when they named her.

Jack, Mirabelle and Sophia, however, are love. Classic names ftw!

Indie - my cat's name, but it's Indi...can't picture it on a person
Mirabelle - not bad
Tyler - not bad
Jack - boring
Jackson - boring
Toryn (m) (tor-IN) - Hey, that's the new lead singer of Fuel...like it otherwise
Wylan - don't like
Arthur - boring
Sophia - like
Annabelle ('Annie') - okay
Mei - okay
