[identity profile] miss--nikki.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
Okay, so I'm the one whose husband likes Layla Jane. One, because he loves Eric Clapton, and two, because he is big on nicknames/initials and likes LJ as one (he's not aware of livejournal). I think the name Layla is beautiful, but as I mentioned in my post earlier today it doesn't grab me, and it's getting increasingly popular. Looking through my baby name book, I think I found a compromise, something that grabs me, is pretty, feminine, not used too often, but traditional, and will still have the same initials. Lydia and still use Jane, as both my husband and I like Jane as a middle name. Now, some of you may think it's hideous, but I think it's very pretty, not common, and perfect for a baby and an adult. Opinions welcome, and appreciated, but I think I am set on it. My husband is at work, so I don't know what he thinks, but I am PRAYING he likes it. Lydia Jane Martin. WDYT?

x-posted to my own journal.

Lydia Jane Martin is very pretty and distinguished. I prefer it to Layla Jane because I dislike when both names have the same vowel sound (two hard AY sounds in this case).

Gorgeous! I definitely prefer it to Layla. I think it's a lovely choice - hope your husband likes it!

I love that name :) I like Layla too but it doesn't sound right with Jane as a middle name. As someone else said, the two vowel sounds (AY) just don't go together. Lydia Jane is perfect though!

Good luck with your husband, I hope he agrees :)

I just don't get Layla. It has bad connotations to me. Sure, it's a pretty song, but it's about "the other woman". Why would you ever want to associate your daughter with being someone who has affairs with married men?

Lydia Jane is GORGEOUS. I loved Macy, but Lydia is even better. It's really underused and it's a great name for any age. It's one of my favorites.

I love it! I never thought of Lydia, but I really like it, and Lydia Jane goes really well. I also like the nickname Lyddie.

Lydia is better than Layla.

I know one Lydia. She's quite awesome. It's not common, but people know it, which is ideal in my opinion.

I love Lydia Jane! It's adorable!

Layla Jane is almost a bit too much to say at once with the same sounding vowels...But that could just be me because I tend to dislike names with 'ay' in them.

Also Layla is fairly similar to a lot of names that are becoming reeally popular now. There are so many names with that 'ayla' or 'aiden' sound in them.

Lydia is a little less common, and a lot cuter.

Honestly, I think Lydia is a great name. It's a classic, but it's still not popular, so you won't have to worry about her being the tenth Lydia in her class, but at the same time you won't have people saying, "Lydia, what kind of a name is that?" Plus, Lydia Jane Martin sounds really good.

Lydia

Very pretty, and goes very well with Jane and Martin. It is not used much, wihch is odd because it is a great name. Layla is nice too, but I agree with the poster above, the song IS about "the other woman". A strange namesake in my opinion.

Lydia is very pretty and as a baby you can call her Lyddie or Liddy.
