[identity profile] literaryfantasy.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames

I'm sorry I didn't put this in my other post, but perhaps it deserves something all its own.

I signed my younger daughter up for Sparks the other day and found out that in her little group (I'm sure there must be a proper term for a Sparks group) there were twins. Names? Elizabeth (Betty) and Veronica.

I was absolutely speechless. There are plenty of names in parantheses, which indicates that is the child's preferred name. Maybe it's the little girl's idea to be called Betty...?

I actually think that's kind of cute... I would never do it, or even use those names, but there's something about it that makes me not hate it.

Your icon made me lol. I like the name Veronica but I've never heard Betty used for Elizabeth.

I don't know...every time I hear the name Betty, I think of my neighbor from my childhood who was an old lady, haha. I guess everyone has their own associations with different names. I would use lots of nicknames for Elizabeth before using that one...but I guess that would defeat the purpose of the "Betty and Veronica" idea.

P.S. I love your icon. It makes me smile. :o)

I think they are both nice names for kids and adults. (Elizabeth and Veronica that is). Betty and Veronica are not very contemporary characters, so it is not like they'll get teased on anything. Probably just some knowing smiles from their teachers.

I don't get it. Is it something typically American?
They sound fine to me, although I strongly dislike Betty as a name.

They are comic book characters in America (Archie comics). In the comics Archie has two girlfriends, Betty and Veronica.
