Sidonia

I was very heavily involved in name research the other night and I came across this name. I am facinated by a lot of really OLD names. Some of them are beautiful, but some are so ugly! Anyway, I love researching names from the 1700's and 1800's. I came across Sidonia (pronounced sih-dohn-yah) and was wondering what you all think. I personally LOVE this but I can't find anyone else who does LOL. Maybe that's why the name is very uncommon/not used anymore. So, am I crazy for liking this name, or is everyone else missing out?

I think it's a very pretty name. I don't necessarily like how it's spelled though.

I think its pretty but I want to pn it sid-on-E-ah because of the spelling. I really like your pn, though.

I don't like it at all.
In Belgium & The Netherlands (and I believe even in France) we have this famous cartoon called Suske&Wiske, and there was an Aunt Sidonia in it, here (http://www.fameuzefanclub.nl/archief/personages/sidonia.jpg). So I immediately think of her, and I don't like that ;)

My thoughts exactly!

I think the way you pronounce it is pretty, though I never would have thought to pronounce it like that.
I immediately thought Sid-oh-nee-a ... which is really not very attractive.

I agree with an above poster, it's better than Sydney.

what does it mean?

From the look of it, I want to say it's an italian name, only I've never heard it here. Anyway, by roman phonetics it's pronounced See-DAWN-yah (or See-DAWN-ee-ah, but you wouldn't really hear the last two vocals as separate)

The first thing that springs to mind for me is that Muse song, "Knights of Cydonia." This gives the name a comical air to me, but that aside, Sidonia is very pretty.

That's totally what I was associating it with and just realized it, haha.

I had to Google the name so that I would know where I knew it from, but I do like this name. It's pretty and fun to look at. I'm weird, though.

I can't decide if I like it or not. I think I do.

I think it's really pretty.

I want to pronounce it "Sih-DOUGHN-yuh." It's not bad.
