[identity profile] sweet-caro1ine.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
I've just joined this community and must say I am loving it!!  Thought I'd throw in the most unusual names I've ever come across.  During my time working a the local library I came across a family with four kids.  Their names were (wait for it....)

1. Flowing Dolphin
2. Tenami Nature
3. Creation Koala
4. Rainbow Butterfly

And NO, I am not making this up.  The family was quite new age and I somehow it suited them and the way they approach life.

Duuuude. I'm into some pretty funky names myself, but I'd make sure that at least one of their names (first or middle) is professional or easily nicknamed into something very "normal" — just in case my kids aren't as strange as I am and would rather be socially acceptable.

Wow O_0. I'm trying to think of a comment but I just can't. Creation Koala? gah. I just don't know what to say!

Wow.
Those can be cute when they are kids, but how in the world are they going to be taken seriously when they are, let's say, applying for a job?
Creation Koala is the worst, IMO. Rainbow can be cute as a middle name.

Guilty pleasure, but I do quite like Rainbow Butterfly. The rest don't appeal; cool in theory but I always feel it's best to pair an unusual name with nothing 'normal' to cover all bases.

seriously, just incase. nobody expects that parents conform to society. at least, i don't. but for your children's sake...you may want to give them options.

Oh yes, I totaly agree. :)
I always try to pair more unusual first names with a more classic middle name [which are often family names, so would want to use them anyway].

oh, no...i meant "you" in general. i didn't meant to imply it towards you. sorry if it looked that way.

seriously, if your kid doesn't grow up as "free loving" as you...it might be difficult for them. at least give them a name they could use in place of instead.

Flowing Dolphin, esq.
Creation Koala, MD
Rainbow Flower, OB/GYN
Tenami Nature for President
The Honorable Flowing Dolphin Presiding.
It's the 6 O'clock News Hour with Your Host, Creation Koala

(ok, i'm going to stop now.)

Having said all that. I love this band called Moldy Peaches, with a singer named Kimya Dawson and she named her daughter Panda. I think it's soooo adorable.

Penguin McFlippers, a name that screams trust, confidence, experience.

This comment had me laughing.
I think mostly because of "The Honorable Flowing Dolphin Presiding".

And I love Moldy Peaches and when I heard Kimya Dawson named her daughter Panda I fell in love.
I'm tempted to name the little one on the way the same thing, but I have my heart sent on something else right now.

yay, Moldy Peaches fans unite. Panda is super cute, I admit. Or at least her daughter makes the name cute as hell.

Yikes!
That's just wrong.
Of all those I like Rainbow Butterfly the best.
Butterfly is one of my niece's middle names which I picked actually. I was eleven when she was born so...

What are their genders? I would guess but I'm afraid too!

I almost like Tenami, but it might just be because it's up against those others. But Nature as a middle name? Isn't that trying a bit too hard?

Thats just ridiculous. If they're going to do that they can atleast match up the names. Do dolphins really flow?

Umm. So, I am convinced that they let the kids pick their siblings' names. And that whoever was born first was just picked from random pages of the dictionary.

This reminds me of the Phoenix family. (River, Rain, Summer, Liberty and for some reason Joaquin.) Except much worse.
