Too old woman for you? Do you see beat-rice before anything else?

What do you guys think?

It's old-fashioned, but like "Violet," I think it's coming back to some degree. It's a pretty name, but it reminds me too much of "cockatrice," and that is bad.

I love the name, actually. I also like Beatrix.

I only started to see "beat-rice" when someone pointed it out to me. Ever since, I've jumped off the Beatrice wagon a little, but moved on to Beatrix, which I think has more charm anyway.
Love Beatrix :)

I never saw beat rice before you pointed it out heh.

I prefer Beatrix though :)

OMG, Beezus! I used to love those books, and didn't even think of that until you pointed it out.

I like it. Not too old-ladyish at all. And I don't see "Beat rice."
But I like Beatrix a million times more, it's one of my all-time faves.

I chose it as the name of a character in a book I'm writing because she happens to be plain and a little on the heavy side. That's the image the name evokes for me.

I've never thought of beat-rice.
It seems to be an older sounding name, but I actually think i like it. The nickname Bee would be cute, while Beatrice is a mature sounding name for an adult.

I love Beatrice. I think of Beatrix Potter, even though it's spelt completly differently! I too prefer Beatrix, but Istill love Beatrice!

I don't like Beatrice. But I don't see Beat-rice ;)
Beatrix is our Queen's name so I really can't see anyone naming their kid that.

I've always liked both Beatrice and Beatrix. Beatrice is my mother-in-law's name, actually.

I hate it. It definitely sounds old lady to me.

Beatrice sounds a little too snotty-stuck-up-old-spinster, but I totally love Beatrix (yes, after Kill Bill, guilty pleasure hehe). It sounds a lot more modern, although it's the latin original version, so it's actually a lot more ancient ;) and true to the roots!

Yes, I know it was her character's name, but I was wondering how could someone consider a slang expression to be a name (other than the movie writers, I mean :P) hehe

I have an Italian friend named Beatrice, but I think (Italian speakers correct me if I'm wrong) that it's pronounced bay-uh-TREE-chay or -tsee-ay (or something to that effect--I'm having a hard time making it phoenetic). She goes by Bea pronounced BAY-uh, which I think is cute.

I don't dislike the name, though the English pronunciation now sounds kind of plain to me. Haha.

Bay-uh-TREE-chay is correct ;)

like it. I see bea-trice (as one should)

but I can't use it because an older woman once told me she wished someone would use the name Beatrice (her name) and I told her that her generation's names are coming back in style. but I wouldn't want it to look like I named my kid after her! (no offense to her, but she isn't family or anything, so...)
