What do you think of the name Myfanwy ? It's Welsh and it's pronounced
Mih-FAHN-wee
Meh-FAHN-way
Muh-FAHN-oy
Mah-VON-wee
depending on where the pronouncer is from lol.
It means "my beloved one", "my sweet woman".

I think it's rather entertaining, but probably makes for a good middle name, if it's your taste.

I don't hate it. And I like it best pronounced Mah-VON-wee or Meh-Fahn-way, because I don't like the 'mif' sound.

It looks like "My Fanny" to me too. Or "My Fan Why"

I'm not a big fan of Welsh names. If they're being used anywhere except Wales, they will be inevitably pronounced wrong. I do think that Myfanwy pronounced Mah-VON-wee is nice, though, but I'd never use it because it would never be said correctly.

I think if used anywhere outside of Wales, it's going to be pronounced/spelled wrong ALL THE TIME. Same thing with the Gaelic versions of names (like Siobhan, etc).

That said, Myfanwy is...well, I'm going to have to agree with [livejournal.com profile] _____citylight and [livejournal.com profile] roifosch that it looks more like "My fanny" than any of the pronunciations you have listed.

I really didn't think of 'my fanny' until everyone started to mention it. Maybe it's because I'm not a native English speaker.

I know a girl called Myfanwy but she goes by Myffie. I really like Myfanwy but I hate Myffie.

I love it, but because of the horrible mispronunciations, I'd never use it. I know a girl called Myfanwy, who goes by Miffy.

Is this the name of one of the characters on Little Britain??

First thought - Little Britain.
Meh-FAHN-wee is how I pronounce it.
I could use it, as I live in Wales, and I don't think it'd get mispronouced/misspelled here, but I could never ever get past the Little Britain connection!

It doesn't look strange to me but I bet most Americans would have no clue how to say it.
