This may sound like a weird question: what names make you think of a hip-hop / r'n'b type of girl?
The reason I'm asking this is because I'm in a hip hop dance class and this year (which will be my 2nd there) we're looking for "stage" names to enhance the fun. I realize MC names are usually made of a name plus other stuff (like Lil' Kim, and not just Kim), but just so I have a starting point.
Any suggestions? :)

This is hard, because I don't stereotype well (don't like to be stereotyped, so I try not to do it).

But generally, removing vowels and adding z's to "namz" usually makes it hip-hopp-ish.

Right - that's what is hard for me because I try not to stereotype and it sounds like that to me. NOT saying at all that it's wrong or anything, I just try not to associate names that way.

But, to contradict myself completely and taking a page from the movie Coach Carter, I think of Shaniqua that way.

"So you think you can dance" had a couple of B-girls on their show this past season...maybe borrow from them?

Sarah was the most successful one.

hmm...that's a good question. here's some names i like that could be considered hip-hoppish.

Brandy
Chanel
Chantal
Dominique
Giselle
Maya
Simone
Tatiana

also, i made a new friend recently and her name is Oceanel/Oceanelle. i believe it's spelled Oceanel, but Oceanelle is clearer, pronunciation-wise. i think that's a really pretty name and could be hip-hop too.

There is always the tried and true "take the first sound from your first name and the first sound from your last name and mush them together" rule. Like J-Lo.

I guess this would be bad if you name was, for example, Penelope Brandon. P-Bra doesn't have the same ring to it.

in her case, T-unit, or T-uniq?

Hm.

Tunic. People used to dance in tunics. I think it works.

All sillyness aside, it might be fun to get your class together and name each other. Then you only have to come up with one name, and it doesn't have to be your own!
